ripped_fear
As above, my negative terminal is split and is now causing the car not to start unless I connect the other car up to it with jump leads. Obviously this is not good. Ive bought another new terminal from halfrauds but the OEM one is not simply bolted to the wire, and im unsure how you get the OEM off correctly. Anyone done this before that can help?
wilson4347
I cut the OEM negative terminal off and bought the type that clamps down with two bolts onto the bared wire. Fitted perfect on the terminal and looks neat. Il try and find you the link for the one i bought
ripped_fear
The one I bought fixes with two bolts too. Its the cutting of the oem one im sure about. how did you get the metal that surounds the negative wire and twists into the center off without cutting the wire itself. Mk4Gaz
Yes, just cut the wire and strip the insulation back for the new terminal.

wilson4347
OK guys cheers mine doesn't seem to have much slack. Will look into it further. You can always get a new negative lead and change it if its too short
ripped_fear
Ok so bumping this thread. I have cut the OEM one off and fitted the new non genuine one. I have enough slack for it to reach the battery from the earthing point at the block, however the point where it earths into the chasis is to far up the wire for it to reach the mounting point. Was going to just buy a a new OEM strap however they have been discontinued. Have left a message with keron in case he has one, however this will still be a 20 year old part so not ideal. Anyone have a solution as the Non genuine ones seem to just be a strap from the battery to one earthing point. Guessing the earth at the block is there for a reason? Scott
I just made up my own with some 0 gauge. It starts to add up cost wise, but it's a much better job done

Scott
Wouldn't have a clue how to start. how did you branch it off to have two earths? Large heavy duty 0 Gauge distribution block. Something like this.... I use one with a couple more splits though, that way I can run my amp directly off of the block rather than using the battery terminal. Keeps the terminals looking cleaner. Chris Wilson
Leave the chassis to engine block earth as is, cut the battery to chassis wire right by the chassis lug terminal. Fit a new earth lead from battery negative to under the same bolt that now holds just the chassis to engine earth wire. Simple!
ripped_fear
Thanks guys Alot simpler than I first though then.
