Removed a couple of bits and pieces the other day ahead of a service just to see what would need replacing.

 

Here's my first couple of spots!

 

Split recirc valve hose.

I've ordered new coil pack connector clips from SRD along with new wires as the stock wires can become brittle and the casing cracks causing a short.

Also, the factory recirc valve will be blanked off as per advice from this forum.

 

 

P.S. Yes, that is blood on my hands from one of the bloody clips disintegrating and slicing my finger :D

 

No excuse for me not wearing gloves though!

Rich, why are you blanking the factory recirc?

 

It's one less potential leak/failure. Also, following some reading from Chris W, I gather it is not entirely necessary and was fitted by Mr T primarily for the purpose of muting unwanted turbo noises (you know, those noises half the forum strive to achieve :D). On the Supra it will likely still sound identical but at least I'll be confident it isn't leaking.

 

If I change my mind I will probably buy a HKS SSQV like I had fitted on one of my previous Supras.

Ahh right, I didn't know that, when it fudged a while back I ended up buying another one, i'll be blocking mine anyway as I have a HKS SSQ3 :) I might block it up first and test it without the SSQ in place and hear if its any different.

Pulled the car out the garage today to start doing a few jobs on it and getting it on the road ready for March.

 

Decided to tackle the extra special "Toser" boost gauge today. Apart from the fact it wasn't functioning, it looked daft, wasn't secure and I couldn't put up with the word tosser staring back at me every time I glanced at it :p

 

It had to go.

Traced the vacuum hose and removed it all, followed by tracing the wires back to find these bad boys... in the bin go the scotch locks and I'll have to look at doing something with the existing wires.

Closely followed by wondering why my clocks didn't seem secure... one screw missing and another threaded all of half a turn in may be the reason then! :search:

Anyway, dash panel removed and a complete new heater vent fitted courtesy of Nicholas along with giving the panel a wipe down with APC. Like new, almost.

I've now had the new SRD supplied coil pack connector clips and wires soldered in. Nice improvement on the old ones that disintegrated!

Also, picked up some neo-chrome engine bay bolts to match my wheel nuts (undecided on these) and fitted my cooling panel. It wasn't straight forward finding neo-chrome washers without all the naff "JDM" writing that's usually on them but luckily a mate sourced a plain set. They look a bit out of place at the moment but hopefully it will all tie in together when I clean and tidy up the bay. The fitment of the APR cooling panel wasn't great and it's a good job I had a new Dremel at Christmas to reshape it to fit! Luckily now it's done it all looks spot on :cool:

Refitted my dash panels yesterday along with the rest of my interior after fitting the new heater vent and tidying up some bits and pieces behind the dash. Looks a little bit more car-like now! I re-mounted the boost controller screen as well - I really like this boost controller, doesn't look too flashy for the interior but has all the bells and whistles :cool:

I have ordered all new Gates' hose to replace the vacuum pipes and as good practice I replaced the turbo link pipes too. Turns out it was definitely needed, check out the state of this one below!

With two new link pipes purchased through Auto Silicone Hoses (I paid around £18 delivered IIRC for the two pre-cut pieces) I fitted them yesterday. As you can see in the below picture the bay is a real mess at the moment but it will all come together shortly. I can't wait to remove the remainder of the blue hose!

good progress mate, wish i had gone for the ash hoses, i paid double for whifbitz and there are looking sqaushed at the moment, the ash ones are better quality and I can pick them up as its only a few miles from me

 

I must thank Matt P as I took the sizes from the measurements he posted in his build thread, although, I'll also say they could both do with being 5mm shorter as they're a super tight fit as is. The ASH hoses certainly seem excellent quality and very well priced! I ordered the blanking caps through them as well and their service is great.

 

How bad were your previous link pipes?

 

I'm currently sat here annoyed because rain is stopping progress on the car and I want/need it back on the road next weekend!

my link pipes were no where near as bad as yours however my turbos were dead at the time so I was just replacing things a long the way.

I got a job list a mile long, just working on my speedo LED conversion from heckler (and struggling!).

 

are you going to clamp your end caps? i would...

Yes they're just pushed on there at the moment whilst I'm pulling bits apart.

LUCKY escape today.

 

Came to change the spark plugs only to find one that one was loose. I can only imagine that due to the build up of crud in that area (leaky cam cover gaskets) the spark plug wasn't seated correctly when it was torqued down and has since vibrated loose - maybe.

 

Anyway, spark plugs changed for some new BKR8EIX Iridiums (torqued to 20 NM), spark plugs wells cleaned up a little and the cam covers have also been removed, cleaned and will be refitted with new gaskets, washers and breather hoses tomorrow. Although, I'm tempted to paint the covers black before refitting.
