MySupra
I've recently done a engine rebuild, tested all cylinders 1,2,3,4,6 all running between 145-160 psi 5cylinder running at 100, I've got her started, it struggles between 500rpm and 800rpm, and sounds like it's miss fireing

mellonman
Theres your problem, No 5 is way down on compression. Ha im not even sure how i missed that first time reading it , also to be fair the 145 - 160 is on the low side
Chris Wilson
If number 5 cylinder has an ignition issue, or an over fuelling (injector?) issue it will suffer some bore wash and read low. Add a teaspoon of engine oil down each cylinders spark plug hole, disable injectors, spin on starter still with plugs out for 10 seconds and re test. MySupra
It runs fine over 1000rpm, between 500-800rpm it acts like its miss firing, hoping a good motorway blast will sort it out
np89
It runs fine over 1000rpm, between 500-800rpm it acts like its miss firing, hoping a good motorway blast will sort it out Usually if there is a problem and you choose to give it a "quick blast" anyway, that will exacerbate the problem as opposed to solving it...... I don't think I've ever read in any repair manual the option "If x problem exists, give it the shoe and it will be fine"......

Chris Wilson
Are you writing this from a seat in the breakdown truck? Or did the "blast" fix things? Or are you still pondering?
