Poshmalc
Hi guys, Over the winter months I plan to give my HREs a freshen up and maybe change the colour of the centres completely, but as I've never had them apart before, I wondered how hard they are to split? I only need the faces off and wondered if it was possible to do this with the tyres still in place? Will there also be sealant behind the faces? If anyone could enlighten me in the ways of split rims, I'd be very greatful! Cheers, Matt

Poshmalc
Just looking on YouTube and it looks a real ball ache with 3 piece wheels and slightly less with 2 piece. Really want to do it, but don't want to face this hassle aaaaarrrrgggh! I'm sure it'll be worth the stress though.
Rob W
My Volk GTC's 2 piece you can take the centres out with the tyres on but with my old mans veilside 3 piece wheels the centres have to be taken out from the rear so tyres off, barrel split. Poshmalc
That's what I was hoping, it looks the way that mine are bolted that I might be able to get the faces off with the tyres on, time will tell haha!
T14PPA
Tyres will have to come off. Its easy but takes alot of time and patience. Once all the bolts are off you may need to heat up the silicone to help them come apart. Mark each pieces position as sometimes they dont balance properly is not the same place. When putting them back together make sure the surfaces are very smooth and clean
Poshmalc
Thanks for the advice mate!
Dnk
Depends on the design but yours look like the centre could be removed without taking the tyre off and splitting them but i personally wouldn't recommend it. Take the tyres off and do them properly is my advice then re seal them, its easy enough to to do Edited November 16, 2014 by Dnk (see edit history)
Poshmalc
I can't see what harm it would do if it is possible to take the face out separately, there wouldn't be any weight on them as such! Should make the dishes sooooo much easier to polish too
