Samurai 20V
Hi Guys.. Some sudden issues, my car was parked off for the last three weeks.. In that time, I started the car twice, no issues.. Fired it up today, slip control off light is flashing. Did a diagnostic, came up with error codes 32 and 42... I can locate a code 32 on the service manual, not a trace of a 42.. I checked the code twice.. Code 32 is Left front speed sensor.. What should I do? Change the speed sensor or just drive the car? The ABS system light is flashing normal when doing the diagnosis and off when car is idling.. Help! Thanks.
Samurai 20V
Anyone?
Chris Wilson
The ABS won't be working with a failed wheel speed sensor or sensor circuit. you may get a judder from the brake pedal on the first stop after a key off / on. But otherwise it'll drive as normal. I have driven Supras for hundreds of miles with similar issues. Test the ABS sensor before buying a new one. Depending on which side i have I may be able to supply a known good used one.
Samurai 20V
Thanks Chris.. Will drive the car a bit and see what happens.. The code shows a left front sensor.. Will keep you posted..
Chris Wilson
If you have Racelogic Traction Control it has a means of seeing if that sensor is outputting OK. If not you need a `scope, or just change it and hope. Sadly the sensor I have is a right hand front.

Samurai 20V
Things are worse after the drive, picking up right front and left front sensor failure.. Also still got a code 42 which I can't find on the list.. The car is driving fine, no abs codes either..
Mk4Gaz
Isn't code 42 something to do with traction control?
Samurai 20V
This is code 42 From the trac control system.. Not from the engine Ecu.. I suspect the trac Ecu is faulty.
Chris Wilson
Code 42 is the number one speed sensor (on the gearbox). It could be the sensor, the wiring or a gizmno like a top speed delimiter, or KMH to MPH converter playing up, too. If there are really 2 dead ABS wheel speed sensors the ABS system should, for sure, flag fault codes, and the ABS light should be on all the time. Samurai 20V
Thanks Chris.. The Abs light is off.. (The light is working, lights up in startup and goes out after 3 seconds). There are no abs codes. I don't have a speed delimiter device fitted. My next course of action is to swap the trac ecu for a known working one, hope that's logical.. Chris Wilson
No, I would remove any speedo converter or top speed delimiter, anything none stock connected to that area of control. Return the wiring to standard. Check if there are any gizmos alongside the transmission, early imports tended to have them fitted underneath the car. No Speed delimiter near the ecu or gizmos under the car, I have checked previously.
Samurai 20V
Just cleared the codes.. The wheel sensors codes have disappeared... Moved the car front and back a few times, they did not reappear. The code 42 is still there.
Chris Wilson
Does the speedo read in MPH on the standard KPH dial? Will it go well over 115 MPH?
Samurai 20V
It reads in km/h... It does not go over 180km/h ( 112mph)
Samurai 20V
Swapped the Trac ECU with a working one from a friends car... Problem solved.. Light operation normal.. Now have to find a used one that works.. Or just remove it..
np89
Just pull the trac fuse out
