SupraLEDrears
So I'm just sorting out things one at a time. I've noticed that my AC pulley makes a grinding noise like metal on metal. It does it whether the AC is on or off. If I spray som WD40 into the centre it stops for a few hours. How do I get rid of this? Thanks(AC is working fine) 93 NA manual

Chris Wilson
Hi, thanks for that ECU As the pulley is locked to the compressor waddle plate when the A/C is on (assuming it has enough gas in it to operate the low gas pressure switch), the big bearing inside the pulley will not then be turning. With the A/C off, or not enough gas charge for the safety switch to allow the A/C electromagnetic clutch to engage, the pulley spins supposedly freely on the bearing within it. Therefore if the A/C pump is actually being engaged, and the the noiuse is still there, it can't be the bearing making it. If the noise is there with the A/c off and the clutch disengaged, it can't be the compressor itself. Belt noise? Some brands can make a lot of odd noises, spray the *belt* with water or WD40, does the noise stop? It may be you are getting WD40 on the *belt* when you spray the pulley. Is it there if you run the engine for less than a couple of minutes with the belt off altogether? Listen *CAREFULLY, so you don't entangle it in anything moving, and poke it through your head....), with a screwdriver against your ear, touching things, you should be able to find the source like that. It is NOT a health and safety approved method though!!
