Mad Hatter
Been watching this for a while... Has anyone used this kit ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361083770530
supra_ufo
I have the same intercooler mate, they dont come with brackets so you will need to buy brackets (i bought them from b&q). You will also need a PS cooler or to relocate the existing one somewhere else but its flipping huge. If you do not mind messing around then its a good buy. SRD Sell a kit for £500 which is more or less bolt on (there instructions are rubbish tho LOL). I think Whifbitz have a deal on them too but 350. Either way you are looking at paying twice+ for a kit that will fit with no messing. Check my build thread (page 6) and you can see where I mounted mine. You will also need an induction kit if you use the kit as I believe the airbox will get in the way, I bought a 45 pipe and used the existing box however im finding it now that its a weak point as I keep getting boost leaks (clamp slipping or popping off) Edited October 22, 2014 by supra_ufo (see edit history)
The-Plethora
Prepare yourself for a thread where people will suggest you pay £800 A few people use these without issue, I wouldn't use for a big single build but if I had a BPU car with a stock SMIC and it was knackered I'd probably replace it with one of those. Dnk
Depends on how well the core cools the intake charge to know if its any good or not
supra_ufo
Depends on how well the core cools the intake charge to know if its any good or not Dnk, im using one and I noticed a difference straight away, faster spooling and car just feels more responsive. I cant say anything about the core other than the fact if Whifbitz&SRD are not buying there versions from a British company then chances are they are all being made from the same factory in china! (thats my opinion). If this kit came with a few brackets&relocation kit for the PS and coolant res, it would IMO be perfect
Dnk
Who knows mate, can't say i've ever seen any specs given on an intercooler no matter who its made by. If your happy then cool I made the mistake years ago buying HKS when i really didn't need to, think it was around £1200

johnny g
Get an SRD 3" core, you then know it'll fit and come with everything needed, and Lee stands behind his products.

johnny g
I'm not sure, I had the 4" version The 3" will come with everything needed to fit and you get an expansion tank.
Shane
I swapped an oil cooler for one of these years ago with Dr Jekyll and its in bit of a sorry state but still in the 12s with it, seems to run fine and up to the job at BPU. I also added ducting wherever I could to ensure I had max airflow through the core. Also it's the same one that XS power badge up and call theirs. Mine doesn't use the pipework shown, I bought that elsewhere. Plus side it's cheap and seems to work well and easy to fit. Down side is that as mentioned you will have to make a couple of brackets up, but not a lot more than strips of metal with a hole each end really. As JG has said, the kit from SRD does come with everything, but so long as you are ok with a bit of improvisation and happy to relocate or change the PS cooler and overflow bottle then the cheaper option makes sense. I have just bought some small digital thermometers so I can compare and monitor charge temperatures, but not got round to fitting them yet so unable to provide any figures. Dnk
It would be very interesting to see the temp figures
Shane
It would be very interesting to see the temp figures Yes I agree, I bought them as I have fitted a spray for mine and wanted to see if it was worth all the hassle of that. But when I do fit them I will do some tests with and without the spray and see how it all performs.
supra_ufo
SRD do not sell the 3" core anymore, I wanted this first which was around £350, the only available one is 4" and is £500. I just didnt want to spend that much at the time.
Morzy2k5
I had one of those on my old 1jz soarer.and it was fine no leaks and held pressure great.
Mk4Gaz
I've got one of those on mine, won it on an auction for £80 - brand new with all fittings and clamps. Mine fitted great, and came with brackets and bolts. Coped perfectly at bpu, and was fine during mapping for two hours on the dyno after finishing my single build. MATT RR
I ran one of these on my old UK spec BPU TT Supra, no problems at all!

I'm cleaning up a barn find at the moment. All is going well and it will likely only be a BPU daily runner. The SMIC looks like a cheese grater as did the original Rad and AC condenser... I can only work on the car outside and though i'm happy to strip the front end, the facility to make up brackets and go old school custom is a little difficult. I'm not paying £800 for something so simple but going halfway to avoid some discomfort is something i'd consider.

If your happy then cool I made the mistake years ago buying HKS when i really didn't need to, think it was around £1200 I know your pain. I did that with the last supra, big fat Greddy thing I recall and it leaves you not knowing if you've wasted a stack of cash. For the Whifbitz race car et ell the actual performance comparisons/data I imagine are quite important and worth spending the extra ... for spinning to work and back it's of course overkill. Mad Hatter
I ran one of these on my old UK spec BPU TT Supra, no problems at all! It's all quite convincing just need some clear weather to fit it. Silly question but I assume there is no way to fit this without getting the front bumper off? j_jza80
Yup, bumper off job. The bumper may also need cutting depending on the pipework.
