na crankshaft sensor

The crank position is sensed via the distributor. It has a trigger wheel in it that gives both cam and crank position. As it's driven by the cam belt it's nothing like as accurate as a crank derived position signal, but adequate for most purposes. The TT variant has a star wheel on the nose of the crank, and gives a more accurate position as there's no belt flex or harmonics between crank and sensor. None VVTi and VVti use different crank trigger wheels, as one is wasted spark, one is direct spark. (VVTi is wasted spark). A wasted spark system is where one coil fires twice, but one spark does nothing effectively as it fires on the exhaust stroke of that cylinder.
