Mad Hatter
I've bought a new rad since mine left me stranded on Sat night .. top up and drive 4 miles .. top up and drive 4 miles ... no fun. Is the rad difficult to swap over? 94' TT auto. I know it has the gearbox cooler in the bottom etc.. I just wondered if anyone has a step by step guide to replacing it or whether you should just throw it into the garage? cheers all
mattdavies
It is easy and will take an 1/2 hours max. Remove the shroud ( 10mm bolts) Undo all 4 hoses ( 2 large water & 2 small auto ) Undo the sensors at the bottom Undo the top two rad clamps Lift out the radiator Do reverse to re-fit

supra_ufo
Its worth doing the thermostat and changing fluids, if your pipes are old then worth changing them too mate. I did the job and im a rook, needed a hand lifting it out. There is a guide I think on the main page, its the workshop manual Edited October 14, 2014 by supra_ufo (see edit history)

Mad Hatter
It is easy and will take an 1/2 hours max. Remove the shroud ( 10mm bolts) Undo all 4 hoses ( 2 large water & 2 small auto ) Undo the sensors at the bottom Undo the top two rad clamps Lift out the radiator Do reverse to re-fit Half hour job max ... took 4 hours. granted the shroud took 2hrs to get it off and get new ones, then bracket bits to fit the new rad. The new rad is a bit thicker and need a lump chopped out of the battery tray to get it back in. It fits .. but a bit of a squeeze finished in the dark with only a torch in my gob to see what the hell I was doing haha Well worth it though as you may see *yuk* http://springboxconsulting.com/images/supra/oldrad4.jpg
mattdavies
Maybe I was a little optimistic, simple enough job though all being well. Glad you got it sorted.
Dnk
Did you check the cross member that the rad sits on ? They're quite prone to rotting but if caught soon enough can be a straight forward fix
Mad Hatter
It was pitch black at 8pm when I got to the point of fitting the new one. Had to use my Land Rover headlights just to see wtf I was holding. Everything looks fine underneath and the mounts were surprisingly clean and not brittle. I've just picked up the new condenser so I'm going to have to get the rad off again soon to get this in. All being well Matt with parts that fit and day light, you were quite right, I could do the next one in half an hour lol
