Mad Hatter
I've got to replace one of the front callipers, common sense will push me to replace both of them. It's an import TT '94. I'd like to avoid the cost of a massive upgrade, but I'm interested in what you guys think about using UK spec callipers (if i cannot find jap spec ones), if there is anything you need to replace at the same time etc Is there anything I should look out for, buy these/don't buy those advice would be much appreciated! thanks all
mattdavies
It is an easy conversion to do, at the minimum you just change caliper (+pads) and disc, cut away some of the dust shield with some tin snips and the old hose attaches to the back. Some say good pads and discs with braided lines on a jap-spec set up is just as good, I did it for the looks and got a good deal, J-Spec caliper shouwl be easy to come by but while it is off would be worth refurbing with a kit from Chris Wilson. Dnk
Don't waste your money on old un refurbished UK calipers that people want crazy money for. You could get yours properly refurbished by Big Red or other caliper specialists that members on here have used which is really the best option and the cheapest to get good brakes on your car Do a search for caliper refurbs etc
hogmaw
I have a spare pair which are used so they could probably do with a refurb.
Nic
Do you definitely have the smaller 2pot/1pot calipers currently fitted? If you are going to up grade to the larger calipers, replace the front and rears. You'll need calipers, discs, pads and pad fitting kit. There's a refurb guide HERE for the small calipers, alternatively you could get them refurbed by a company such as www.biggred.co.uk they also sell the seal kits and pistons if you decide to refurb them yourself.
