Scott
This is the main lead that was mentioned earlier. Chris, can you check the main lead by touching an earth like the TT's?
Chris Wilson
If you mean can you pull the coils HT lead from the disi tower and see if the coil HT (King lead) is outputting a spark to ground, yes, you can. But I would expect the coil is not giving HT out.
Mike2JZ
Thanks guys, I've found the ignition system repair manual for the GE. So will work through the troubleshooting it has & hopefully that will shed some light on the situation. I have a funny feeling something with the grounding isn't right
Mike2JZ
Before I started diagnosing the ignition, thought I'd do a quick once over of all the grounding points in the car. I found one cable loose near the driverside footwell, near the ignition. Not sure what the cable is earthing, but turned the key just in case it made a difference and voila it fired up first time. Let it idle for 10 minutes, and everything related to the engine seems to be working fine. idle was at 1k rpm. However I noticed water leaking into the passenger footwell as well as the windows steaming up

De-misterman have them for a lot less, and lots of people have used them with good results. Swapping the matrix isn't that taxing.. just take your time getting it all out and it will be fine. The annoying thing is that when I bought the car the entire dash was out in order for me to do the last stages of installing a new heater matrix. I guess the leak is a sign that I didn't do something right when putting the heater back in. For the moment I can live without a heater, so I think I will block off both pipes temporarily so I can focus on getting the car road ready again. Then I'll spend a weekend sometime soon getting the heater sorted once and for all.
Mike2JZ
Can anyone help me understand where the following sound is coming from: After getting the car started, I noticed there is a light scraping sound coming the engine bay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdS1EymmzCo&feature=youtu.be Anyone have any idea what could be causing this & if it's a cause for concern? Cheers
TheTurtleshead
Check the crank pulley and auxiliary belt circuit. Take the belt off and run it.. see what happens. Do you need a stock air box and pipe setup? I have two sets for an N/A.

Mike2JZ
Its hard to hear a scrape in the video to be honest Perhaps scraping isn't the right word, but doesn't the engine bay sound noisy to you? Perhaps I'm over thinking it, are N/A's engines meant to sound like that? Thought they would be quieter.
Al Massey
Put your air filter on, start up and make a quick video. Then leave to get warm so idle drops and make another video. A bit of that sound is due to no air filter. And I think another noise is coming from a pulley.
