dmad
I really love the look of the MkIV Supra without the spoiler on the back - i'd like to take my spoiler off, if only to see how it looks for a week or so. (im a UK TT owner) - can anyone comment how simple/hard it is to remove the spoiler and put it back later if need be. Also, does it leave massive gaping holes in bootlid once its off? cheers
Bobbeh
Dont even think about it!
nick_karkie
yep leave 3 holes on either side. Spoiler is easy to remove. Just pull off the plastic lining inside the boot below the window and u will see the bolts. Hole cant be temporarily covered using rubber thingys he he.....if u like it without the spoiler then get the holes welded and painted. dmad
Bobbeh - if its as easy as the guy says then why shouldn't I even think about it?! The Supra does look more aggressive and sporty with the spoiler, but its also a bit more bollocks-out-in-your-face, whereas the non-spoiler looks more classy in my opinion, like Ferraris don't often have spoilers on the back..... Bobbeh
F-40, F-50 sorry The car (imho) seems far more suited with the spoiler, it doesnt look bad without it, just a bit plain for me. Its your car, do what ya want
dmad
F40 and F50 - whats those - 2 out of all the Ferraris out there...........thats about 0.02% of all the different Ferrari models ever made..... It looks more like a Porsche 928 I think it is without..... http://home.clara.net/dmad/nospoiler1.jpg
Bobbeh
944 = bland The F-40 is a classic, the only other one I'd have would be the 360 modena.
dmad
would be the 360 modena. ....that got a spoiler?
Bobbeh
No, just proving to you that im not always spolier inclined Porsche seem to like Spoliers too btw
dmad
You can't deny that when Toyota looked at the design for the MkIV they weren't taking a few ideas from the 928.......? http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~IBISgts/t1.jpg Yeah, Porsche to like their tea trays a bit on the backs of their cars, but i like the uncluttered sloping back of a car a bit like this (yes, i appreicate it *does* have a spoiler, but not 12" high!) Bobbeh
928.. not really.. thats got a really wide end.. was that what you meant earlier? rather than the 944? I bet if that car was yellow you'd not be saying that!
dmad
Yeah the 928.......how do you mean yellow? If you mean i wouldn't like the non-spoiler car cos its yellow thats because i dislike any car thats yellow. Infact i dislike any car that bright orange, or lurid blue, or yellow, or bright green. I only tend to like dark blue, silver, white or black.
Bobbeh
No, cos its black, looks more like ours I loved the 928 ever since I saw one in the film Weird Science
dmad
Yeah Weird Science was probably the first time i ever saw one! Gary had the 928 and Wyatt had the Ferrari at the end when they took their Girlfriends home. Also i think the time i saw it looked great was he picks that woman up from the mall in the middle of the film and wheelspins away or something in a black 928. Bobbeh
Yeah, thats the one.. On a side note, I used to have hair like Gary
dude
dmad save yourself the trouble of taking the spoiler off just go have a look at an XK8 , sometimes the spoilers are bonded on as well as bolted and this is quite hard to break away , one of the guys on this bbs had his snapped by the bodyshop who took it off !!!! Do a search for 'no rear spoiler' and you may find the thread , dont think Toyota looked at the 928 when designing the sup , do you know how old that design is dude i think they came out in 78 or something , no everyone knows that the design was influenced by the FORD CAPRI at least thats what Quentin would have us believe . Steve Cargill
I was trying to get some information out of Toyota's technical department about downforce on the Surpa. All I could get was while they sold the Supra without a spoiler in Japan (180KMH limit) whey would not allow it to be taken off for the UK market. No hard facts, but I'd keep it on...... There is a large amount of tech info on http://www.mkiv.com, you just have to root around a little. The answer to the spolier question is here: http://www.mkiv.com/specifications/product_Information_book_93/tech_shop/sep20_41.jpg

I believe that picture is a photochop, so maybe someone can photochop a spoiler on the back so we can judge that
Guest Martin F
Originally posted by Steve Cargill Not to the question I was trying to get information about though.... Steve, are you trying to get a figure for the entire car or just the spoiler ?
