binfieldx
As above. Currently in the process of importing a supra so I'm looking around in japan atm. I was just wondering, is VVTi worth the extra money? I understand it adds something like 25BHP to the cars just by having it? Are the NON-vvti cars much slower? When modding power wise are they going to be harder to mod to high BHP figures than a VVTi engine? Tom
Havard
Never driven a non VVTi TT but the mid range pull is excellent due to the additional torque. I don't have any figures but I wouldn't fancy a non VVTi after having this. There may be little in it in reality. H.

jay200bhp
Once modded i.e single turbo etc dont rate it much and the rocker cover is ugly with the vvti mechanism on there. Imo.
j_jza80
The Yanks obviously think it's worth it, as there's a massive thread on converting non vvti engines for vvti heads.
j_jza80
Plus, would toyota have bothered if it made no difference? My first priority would always be to find a clean car, but I would certainly prefer vvti.
Chris Wilson
I would always choose a clean and unmolested none VVTi over a lesser condition VVti. It was almost certainly brought in for emissions, and an auto VVTi (Tiptronic) can have issues when de restricted, top speed wise. The choice of cams for a none VVTi is also greater. Mapping a VVTi *PROPERLY* is considerably more long winded and engine wearing than mapping a none VVTi, if you go single or after market ECU on a twin turbo sequential set up. These cars are now of an age where body and underside condition outweighs early / late model specification differences.
binfieldx
So you guys think I should import one based on condition rather than VVTi/No VVTi
Chris Wilson
That would *DEFINITELY* be my criteria.
David P
If you plan to keep it stock the 25? ftlb is worth it, but if you plan to tinker with it you'll wish you had a non VVTI.
JamieP
but if you plan to tinker with it you'll wish you had a non VVTI. Why?

JamieP
I've haven't had any of them issues, for me being VVTI and single was very straight forward, I can only see plus sides to VVTI.
