mac79
93 auto TT running BPU I have been having strange vibations while in D. I thought it might be engine mounts. It fades in and out without the lights on but is constant with the lights on. It was being sluggish and using more fuel than normal so i reset the ecu. It was fine after that. I let it wram up and learn on a steady drive round it was fine and smooth. I then took it dowwn the motorway in high boost (1.2) and when i came off and stopped at the island and the vibration had returned and its the same this morning. It had a new FCD after my other one packed up before JAE so all the plugs were changed as well as it over fuel and killed them. Any ideas on what i need to start looking at? Kaan W
Could it be a pulley?
Dnk
Is the engine missfiring, what state were the coil pack connectors in when you changed the plugs ?
mac79
It has got a very slight miss but the ecu reset stopped that for a bit and now its back. When i picked up the car from jurgan he put new connectors on. Everything seems ok with the pulleys but tbh not sure what i am looking for the snake belt has no wobble in it. Kaan W
It's probably not a pulley but worth checking the idler for wobble. Could be a variety of things but maybe something electrically linked as Dnk said.
mac79
Its starting to drive me nuts, my last one had no bother and drove great.
Dnk
Think the missfire needs to be sorted first. Does it vibrate when its stationary ticking over or if you raise the rpm when stationary, a dodgy pulley say crank pulley failing wouldn't go away with an ecu reset but incase of coincidence check the aux belt pulleys, do the tippex test on the CP, also take the top plastic cover off and check the cam belt tension
rider
It fades in and out without the lights on but is constant with the lights on. Reads like a strange one. the first thing I'd check is the electrics, is the block earth loose or corroded? Simple test would be to jump lead the block to the negative battery terminal and see if the misfire goes. mac79
someone i know has just text me saying is the fcd set to low if its below setting 9 could that cause a fueling problem and cause things not to run right? that might tie in with the ecu reset sort it untill i used big boost? mac79
I found the fcd was set to 10 so i have changed it to 9 and reset the ecu see where we go with that. Edited October 3, 2014 by mac79 (see edit history)
