mattdavies Posted October 1, 2014 Share Posted October 1, 2014 Just watched this. I found it interesting, I originally skipped to 32mins to watch the Supra bit but then watched the GT86 and the MR2. Was good to see how the spoiler affects the aerodynamics and airflow over the vehicle, would of been interesting to see the affect of the active spoiler. jay200bhp Posted October 1, 2014 Share Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) I think that the models are very very small so making a true link to the cars aero performance is pretty slim. The models have no radiator openings and so that flow is forced around the wheels ,and underneath the car.this is one of its most sensitive areas .The wheels are not spinning and hence have no "wake".. This video shows a sound principle of a simple vortice along an edge, but any edge would show a flow seperation along it .The fact is a small model car or a plank of wood will all show similar seperations as the flow breaks away along its edge ... Notice the droplets behind the car are still too.... A conveyer or rolling road belt is the only real way of showing a true flow as the road has to be moving at a comparible speed to the smairflow over the veichles suface...
