Is the Supra Auto box a centrifugal box?

Hi All,

 

Just a quick question. Is the Supra Auto box a centrifugal box?

 

The reason I ask is because I have noticed when I'm not accelerating that hard my rmp stays round 3k rpm and it doesn't sound like the engine in increasing in rev. yet my speedo still goes up at a reasonable rate. After a little while the revs pickup and then it seems to be fine all the way up to the red line. If i accelerate hard from a standing start it doesn't seem to do this as long as i don't lift my foot off the gas.

 

What are peoples thoughts?

Oh I see. Thank you. Could this be why sometimes my car doesn't accelerate when between 3.5 and 4k rpm? I know there is a power dip however if the torque converter does it's thing during this rev range it could explain why it takes so long to get through that rev range sometimes (not always). but there have been times coming off corners where I have been at about 3k rmp or just over, have then put my foot down (but not so that it kicks down) and have found the car seems to get stuck between this rev range for a while then once over it really kicks off again.

 

What determines when the torque converter does its thing? You say viscosity but can this happen at any rev range?

Are you on stock twins or single? And is it a stock torque converter?

 

The are the whifbitz billet turbos which replace the stock ones. but it is the same set up as stock, i.e sequential rather than TTC. Don't know about the torque converter.

The easiest way to test if its an uprated torque converter is to put the car in "D" press your left food hard down on the brake and hold your right foot down on the accelerator. A stock torque converter will stall at around 2200-2500rpm I think. An uprated converter would stall at 3200/3400/3600/3800RPM. Possibly even 4000rpm but thats more aimed at drag use.

"Samsonite" you was way off.

 

The stock stall is between 1900-2000 rpm

And even the hi stall 3200 would only flash around 2500 - 2600, even you dads one does not flash 3000 dude from what I remember

We got Ryan to look at ours and you had to take the trac fuse out, it now stalls at 3600RPM :)

 

Dads used to stall at 2200rpm when we had the stock converter.

What does taking the Trac fuse out do Chris?

 

Nothing when I tested it on mine from what I can tell its the same as just turning it off,

John said that ryan said that the traction control unit on the supra stop the auto raising rpm, but that doesnt make sence to me if you sitting there with the traction control off and lighting up your tyres then there is no gain, In my car anyway
