mwilkinson
So the insanity levels of detail being applied to the paint on my car continue. Following the paint, Kane has now sanded the car with 1200, 1500, 2000 and then 3000 grit sandpaper. Next stage is the polish! 1200 grit. 1500 grit. 2000 and 3000 grit.
TuneR
Man i know the pain with doing that work, gave a light sand (3k grit) and polish afterwards to an S2000 i had and it was so time consuming. Looked great afterwards though so after all the above i can imagine it would look awesome. mwilkinson
There was a dirty rumour circulating on the WhatsApp group that the OEM bonnet insulation was discontinued. I've reached out to Jason at Yam6 and he can't see any supply issues. Despite this I've covered myself and bought a new one. Hopefully pick up next week. I'll also pop into the bodyshop and drop of some of the new body bungs/plugs and all new door, bonnet, boot, bumper and body panels nuts and bolts for painting.
Mike2JZ
New bonnet insulation is the one, makes an engine bay complete. Dunno if you mentioned it or not, but try and find a new insulation for the rear firewall, that i think is discontinued but if you can get one you have won the game in my opinion.

I've had a look for the engine firewall insulation but haven't found one. I'd love to get one though.

mwilkinson
I'd be surprised if I can ever find a new RHD one. Best I could hope for is a very good second hand one. Maybe I need to have a look on the Japanese Yahoo auctions.
mwilkinson
Big news. Car is coming home. I'll be heading over to Kane at the bodyshop tomorrow morning to prep the car for travel and then it will be transported back to my house. Gulp, I then can start rebuilding it. I've also ordered a new rear bumper bar from Jason at Yam6. Mine's not bad, but it was only £140 so I couldn't resist. I should be able to pick the bumper bar and bonnet pad up next week.
Rob W
Great news Matt, I think the rebuilding element is the most enjoyable part seeing it all come together. I just purchased the rear crash bar and petrol tank cover from Jason at Yam6, seems good on prices and will use him moving forward I think on any large/heavy parts. Do you have an idea on what you will be starting on first when you get the car back home?
mwilkinson
Hi Rob, Yes the rebuild will be exciting, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous or daunted by the task. Jason at Yam6 does the best prices on parts I've come across. He beats bringing parts in from Amayama and the likes once you account for VAT, duty and postage. Definitely my go to now. I'll start by doing a detailed installation of all the body plugs / bungs etc. There are a hell of a lot of them on the car and many people will be very surprised by how many. I'll document the part numbers with photo reference guides. I've bought all that we're still available as new parts. I'll then move onto installing the new brake and fuel lines. Like you I've bought brand new everything I can for this. I'll also need to sort out what I'm going to do with the sound deadening. Scooter
All the best with the refit, it's going to be so satisfying once finished, knowing you've pretty much torqued up every bolt with your own hands. Sure gonna keep you busy though!
mwilkinson
So............... Arrived at the bodyshop at around 11am, spent a few hours with Kane preparing the car for transportation. This is the first time I've actually seen the painted exterior of the car in the flesh and I'm blown away by the quality and finish. I know I've posted countless images of the car, and they maybe seem incredibly similar, but for me they each show a stage in the work; and on this occassion the finished article.
