supra_24
Hey guys, Seem like one issue after another at the moment with the new supra. Just got it back from the bodyshop today and back onto the driveway. Had a brief look underneath the car and noticed a small drop of oil on the ground no bigger than a 10 pence coin. It was fresh and a see through brown color, which seemed to be located just a little further back than the rear of the engine. Any ideas what this might be? Could it possibly be the driveshaft or gearbox? Also seeing as it's a minute leak, will it be ok to drive round in, for the time being? Car runs fantastic and boosts perfectly. Was all restored recently by Whifbitz and I believe majority of seals etc were replaced. And most piping was renewed, pretty much all connections replaced. So a bit stumped on what might be the cause. Any help is appreciated Regards Ash
mellonman
The only way to really tell is to jack it up clean all the oil off from where you can see it and start the car and then watch where it comes from Could be second turbo oil feed thats near the back of the block
supra_24
Ok mate, I'm going over to Jez at Horsham developments tomorrow morning, so will see if he can pin point anything. In the mean time though I'm guessing it's still ok to drive round in?
mellonman
That would depend on how quick it made that 10p size blob, if it took an hour or more to do it then I would say your ok. I would check you oil levels as soon as you can though just in case
Geo
cam cover gasket, usually leaks down the back.
Al Massey
This sounds very similar to mine. Found out it was the rear main seal on the gearbox.
marbleapple
I'm with Geo. Mine had that problem, it looked like it was leaking from the back of the bay. Ended up being the cam cover gasket
jazz1
Check where the leak is? Could be the prop shaft seals.
supra_24
Cheers guys. If I need a new cam cover gasket. Where's the best place to order? I have heard that if I'm replacing the cover gaskets, new bolts and bolt seals are needed, to tighten it down better? Would it be best to order as a set through Toyota? jazz1
First check where the leak is, get the car under a ramp.
supra_24
Hey guys, finally back from horsham developments. Wheel alignment yet again got set back a couple of bolts have seized We did however find the cause of the leak, which turned out to be seeping from the gearbox area. Very minor, but gonna get both seals inside replaced. Also engine oils was checked and it was fine although maybe tiny bit over full. I've now left it with Horsham developments who are going to order in the correct bolts and two new toe arms and repair the oil leak. Seems like one issue after another with this car. Barely driven it so far as it keeps having to go back to the garage
mellonman
if your not half hand with a spanner then a 20 year old supra will cost you , but most of the time they are good as gold but are just comming of age where things need replacing , dont worry about it bud just try to enjoy it the most you can
jazz1
These problems will happen you have to understand they are old cars now , the seals are cheap.
