monkey76364
Well I have seen some great things while watching what transfers go through today with the close of the transfer window tonight, then I look at what Spurs have done ... have they lost the plot !!! In Jermaine Jenas - What a pile of donkey poo !!! Lee Young-Pyo - Who the F*** lol !!! Out Reto Ziegler - Only on a one year loan but still on of our best players Erik Edman - Again great player and leaves us with no left back (and messes up my dream team lol) Plus if it cant get any worse Everton look like they may have Keane's signature by the end of the evening and we didn't even try to sign Owen. Sorry for this rant all you non football loving people !

Matt T
Newcastle make me laugh, Real sign Owen last year for 8m iirc, he plays about 5 games, then Newcastle buy him for 17m! Rofl, I'm glad Liverpool refused to pay any more than they sold him for
Aerotop Dave
Blimey, I can't see Owen going to Liverpool, can you?! Imagine the stick he'd get (and I wouldn't be surprised if there was something in the sale contract from Liverpool to Real that said they weren't allowed to sell him to Everton)
merckx
I'm glad Liverpool refused to pay any more than they sold him for How do you know how much they offered? They were still trying to get him early on Tuesday morning even though they knew Newcastle still had a large bid on the table, surely they weren't expecting Real Madrid to sell him for 8 million. They were still trying to get him early on Tuesday morning even though they knew Newcastle still had a large bid on the table, surely they weren't expecting Real Madrid to sell him for 8 million. We offered £12m tops. To match Newcastle's bid would be financial suicide. We were expecting Owen to publicly denounce wanting to go to Newcastle, effectively saying he only wanted to go to liverpool making it a one horse race. The £16m wouldnt make a difference then as he wouldnt go to the team anyway, and the plan was Madrid would be forced to accept the lower £12m. Check out this story for the facts behind it - the writer is the "mouthpiece" so to speak for the club, seems Mr Owen could well have come back to Liverpool, but bottled it by not saying we were the only team he wanted to come to (like Baros said he didnt want to go to Lyon who offerd £8m, thereby forcing us to let him go to his desired location - Villa - for a few million less.) Seems Owen wasnt prepared to do this, I think, in case Madrid said no, and he would be on the sidelines until Jan. Plus, his England career is obviously far too important to him, moreso than coming back to Liverpool, so ho-hum. On a positive note, he couldve done A LOT worse as the Geordies are a great bunch of people and are cracking fans - in my heart I think he'll get more adulation from them then he ever did from us - though I honestly laugh at him for joining up with Graeme Souness. I hope for the Newcastle fan's sake that Shearer, is made manager - that would wipe the smile off my face , as I think Newcastle would be quite a different, far more potent team with someone like him at the helm. Good luck to them both anyway
DamanC
Ziegler will be back, Jol knows how much of a good player he is and what he will deveop into. Jermaine Jenas, hummmm im still not sure about him.......8 mil for someone we dont actually need.......however he must be seen as the davids replacement. Lee Young-Poo - stil not sure, he has alot of euro experiance and had a very good world cup. He may live upto his name (my version ) or i maybe proved wrong Oh and we got some derby animal last night too
Guest Terry S
Liverpool shouldn't have paid more than £1 for Crouch. We should however have bid for Carrick.
paulfurn
Think Crouch wil surprise a few, he has had some deft touches in the friendlies, going on mazy runs which, for a big guy, you dont expect. The rumours from the training ground says that people are impressed so far with him. Hopefully he will offer something we missed last year in front of goal - height and intimidation. As a centre half, having a 6ft 7ins striker to mark wouldnt fill me with confidence Barragan, the young spanish lad we signed, is also tipped by the same people to break into the first team this year way ahead of schedule - which is excellent considering he was bought for a few years down the line. On the whole Im disappointed we didnt strengthen the area's we needed to do so, I guess the next few months will tell just how big a cock-up, or stroke of genius :-/, that has been. Guest Terry S
I can only assume Crouch is there to give us the "Drogba" option when were are struggling to break people down. So far Rafa has been spot on so he must see something in the guy. I think we should sign Carrick as Didi is not getting any younger
monkey76364
Newcastle didint really lose any money though did they in getting Owen. They got back 7-8 Million straight away from the sale fo JJ. And they were still owed at least 5 million from Real from the sale of Bowyer (who has only just got fit after 14 months) So to be honest they did well and got a great striker, unlike Spurs who sign some Derby cack forward lol !!! Its just stupid how Real managed to get over double what they paid for the guy even though he never played. I think Newcastle were so desperate to get someone like Owen, probably paid a bit too much but I'm surprised that he was sold to Real Madrid for just 8 million. God knows where the goals would've come from! I'm surprised we got 7 million for Jenas, he's nothing special at all! I hope Shearer has some sort of role at Newcastle after he retires, it would be great to see him take over as manager at some point.
