Rear Tyres scrubbing wheel arch!!

Hi

When going over even the slightest bumps the rear wheel on my tt jspec rub against the inside of the wheel arches I have 18" wheel on at the minute, I have a pair of KYB rear gas shocks and springs ready to fit next week will this cure it? my thoughts are that the springs/shocks that are on the car will have softened with age??

 

Also I can only fit about 2 fingers between the top of the rear tyres and the wheel arch is this right as even with new springs/shocks the car body will still move up and down more than this surley??

The tyre are 265/35/18 on the rear not sure about offset they are Rota grid drift wheels

 

I am running 275/35/18 on mine & even with passengers/heavy luggage in the back the tyres have never touched the arch.

 

Are you sure that it has stock suspension? Do you have a side profile picture of the car?

If they are rubbing on the outer wheel arch, swapping the suspension is not going to cure it, post up a pic so we can see how the wheels/tyres are sitting in the wheel arch, they may just need the arches rolling to give enough clearance for the tyres.

You rolling on 20's :D

 

My bad. Old ones were 20's. 275/30/20. Rolled arches and -40mm and it rarely scrubbed.

 

My TTE's are infact 265/35/18 and they don't scrub.

 

Gayham. Even doing a handstand on the front wheels, my car's STILL faster than yours... Lol

Buy a decent tyre..

 

I have some cheap shite on my current wheels (what was on the car when i bought it) and they are noisy as hell, I'm expecting better things from my new decent brand ones.

 

Sound deadening and exhaust helps too :)

Don't you guys find with the fat arse tyres the road noise becomes unbearable or do you just have the music on louder?

 

No, not when you buy proper tyres. Wanli Ditchfinder Dieyoungs will give terrible road noise, a decent quality tyre shouldn't.

Was a 30 profile not closer to the OEM rolling radius?

 

I am running a 285 35 19 and was going to go 285 30 19 or back to a 275

 

Yes a 30 profile would be about 12.5 mm nearer the OE rolling radius than using 35 profile on a 295 wide tyre

You do it for comfort, thats why I ran a 35 profile , other than the speedo being off a little I dont think it affects handling

Thanks for the replies

I will post a picture asap think I am going to roll the lips on rear (can't do any harm either way) as I said there is only 30mm ish between top of tyre and arch which is not enough clearance when the car starts bouncing or when accelerating hard
