lol I guess the forum has conflicting info, I honestly thought the V161 had closer ratio's. Anyone got any Toyota tech info? it would be good to know for sure.

V161 feels closer ratio, for me the gears are perfect, with a V160 I prefer using a UK auto diff as gears are to long I think.

Seemed pretty even when we did a rolling start on Dragonball.

 

I started a bit low on the power band on that race, though we were pretty evenly matched!

 

The auto's are certainly quicker than the manual's - Each time I shifted I dropped and then was playing catching up.

I thought the gear ratios on the v161 were taller except for 6th?

Lower number:1 = higher (longer/taller) gearing -- fewer revs at a given road speed.

Higher number:1 = lower (shorter) gearing -- more revs at a given road speed.

Based on those numbers:

1-5 on the V161 are higher than the V160.

6 on the V161 is lower than the V160.

 

 

Close ratio / wide ratio refers to the "gap" between the gears.
