magicmatty Posted August 31, 2005 Share Posted August 31, 2005 Can anyone in "the know" or not...please explain the difference between a : 1. 1994 JSpec NA front bumper... and 2. 1994 UK spec NA front bumper... Following my 4 month long repair battle (still on-going), it results in an admission from the Insurance company vehicle inspector that the bumper, from Toyota is at fault... Following a lengthy discussion (Thank you) he insists that imported cars are such a pain to insure he has recommended that Tescos dont cover imports anymore, because the parts are: rare/expensive/only from japan/ etc etc ...But the insurance ombudsman has told them they cannot refuse import car insurance! But lets not kid ourselves - any decent bodyshop would be able to fill those holes without any hassle if the UK spec bumper is indeed cheaper to source (which I doubt tbh, it all comes from Toyota). I think all the J-spec pre face bumpers are the same and as for the active spoiler, the import GZ also had this and I'm pretty sure it's an add on to a normal bumper rather than an integral part of it. Ian C Posted August 31, 2005 Share Posted August 31, 2005 How about Toyota gets the part number the same way half of us can - from their parts CD, And then order one from the warehouse in Belgium, and in two days time when it arrives, ship it to the repair place. It's not exactly rocket science. colsoop Posted August 31, 2005 Share Posted August 31, 2005 That guy is one of the reasons we pay silly premiums, it is a complete myth that parts are hard to get. I have had no problem getting any part for my car large or small. The uk front bumper probably costs less because it isn't pre painted, whereas when you search the Epc in the japanese area you get different part numbers for the bumper based on paint codes. He assures me I know pothing and "most" parts are completely different - hence the inflated imported car insurance premiums I wish someone would tell these "experts" the score - gits He thinks toyota will not replace it now its been painted and fitted - so gloves off again!! Whitesupraboy2 Posted August 31, 2005 Share Posted August 31, 2005 i got this when i had my crash...i had good 20 min argueement with guy on phone sayin there never was never a UK NA made. anyway in end price of front bumper was around £605 with all mountings which including the spraying an OEM colour by toyota, as thats how it comes the uk bumper was around the same price. You may as well have dropped it and trodden on it and then come to me saying 'we broke it so you can't have your car fixed now'! which is daft. I pay the insurance company a lot of money to cover these exact circumstances and when they unfortunately arise I expect people with some competence to be involved. Your job, your *only* job here, is to get the right parts for my car, and get them fitted and painted to my satisfaction - that's it. I suggest you get on with it. If you want me to find the correct part numbers for you, so that you don't order the wrong thing again, I will. They should be in stock at the Toyota warehouses in Belgium and take a couple of days to arrive, so stop giving me this ridiculous myth about import spec cars being totally different and impossible to fix." But yeah, this is why you pay more for your j-spec insurance sadly. Problem with insurance is I guess they have to have all their work documented for auditing purposes, why they're paying out x for y etc, so I guess if you try and do work arounds they wont like it. Paul Posted August 31, 2005 Share Posted August 31, 2005 Mines UK spec with a J-spec bumper fitted, no problems in fitting and active spoiler etc. still fitted/working. I changed when I had my respray because I wanted to get rid of the headlight washers (btw my bodyshop were A1 but tried lots of fillers and weren't happy that the holes wouldn't crack at a later date).
