Guest SupraScott88
Hey think i need a bit of help with my boost controller. To be honest i am not very clued up on these kinda things, In a moment of genius i knocked the boost controller (its the left side of the driver seat) and well i think i knocked something off, which i tried to fix and well failed i think[OOPS][/OOPS] The reason i dont think it is working is because if i try to floor the car, in either 2nd or using the auto kickdown, the car is fine until the 2nd turbo kicks in it seems, then it starts choking and is lurchy and hesistant,(feels like some1 is pulling the car back) then seems to clear itself after 5500, although dont hold me to those rpm figures as 100% accurate. Could this be the boost controller incorrectly set up? Its an old boost controller,in work so wont let me upload a pic but i will and get a pic of it up cheer scott

Shane
Does the boost reading vary like it should? if so set it for a specific boost level, lets say 1 Bar and then boot it and see if it gets there and holds. Sounds unlikely to be the BC to be honest from your symptoms.
Guest SupraScott88
No i think the actual boost controller figures are correct, but i dont know if the warning light and limiter shoudl be on and if they are configured right if i switch them on :/ Yea i seem to remember knocking the boost controller off and it was still lurching under full acceleration but not quite as noticable, so doesnt seem to be as bad if there is less boost.. To be honest i may get someone to look at it,( Any of the Northern ireland guys know anyone that is clued up on supras? seen that there is a place at nutts corner, is it any good?) The reason why i may get it checked is that the car was serviced by toyota before i bought it and im not confident that they checked for faults correctly,Half the screws ont he engine cover werent tightened and the positive terminal was loose on the battery, plus apprently the alternator was corroded but got refurbed, just wondering if that was done correctly also. Nic
I'd start by checking the ECU for stored error codes, see how to guide here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?35920-How-To-Check-the-diagnostics-codes What boost pressure are you running? Hesitation at higher boost pressures are most commonly caused by an ignition problem eg. wrong/worn spark plugs, faulty coil, bad wiring, broken coil pack clips, etc. If Toyota did the service on the car they probably fitted standard spark plugs which are fine for stock boost levels but will cause hesitation at higher boost. I'd check what plugs are fitted, see guide here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?41927-FAQ-Spark-plugs Whilst checking the plugs it'd be a good idea to replace the coil pack wiring connectors and fit new cam cover breather hoses at the same time, see here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?61141-How-To-Refurbish-coil-pack-connectors Edited August 25, 2014 by Nic (see edit history)
Ric
Spring pressure setting too high? If it's too high it can cause boost spikes and boost surging

Boost pressure im not to sure because the boost controller was all set up before i bought the car and i wouldnt have a clue how to change or alter it. boost controller has four settings 1st setting is at 31 and then four is at 46, but i was advised not to use the fourth one as it overboosts and cuts the engine out apparently o.o and Ric maybe i dunno lol I think im going to take the car up to Supra specialists ireland and see if they will have a look, as i said im not to clued up mechanicallly and im be scared of knackering something, changing a tyre and an air filter is about the height of my expertise lol. I mean the car is absolutely fine under normal driving its only when it is floored it is hesitant, so more of an annoyance at the minute than anything.
