Guest TravisT
Recently when driving about Ive noticed that when driving slowly (sub 20mph) and at separate times when punching the throttle my MK4 lurches all over the shop even when maintaining a constant throttle afterwards, still in the same gear though. Seems like its attempting to shift then changing its mind or the torque lockup is randomly engaging. My hunch is that my driving is causing the logic in the ecu to change at unfavorable points (due to erratic throttle input). One thing I should mention aswell is that my fluid in the gearbox is at REALLY high levels. Dont know if this would cause or be part of the problem. Second thing is that when holding the revs above 4000rpm for more than 3-5 seconds causes the CEL to come on. Normally this isnt a problem when driving through town or when driving sensibly on the motorway but when under load and accelerating hard, 60% of the time it comes on and even more oddly when going up hill while still accelerating it can switch it back off again. Being a JDM import and having a kph to mph conversion done with the limiter removed im assuming its because the conversion was botched/dodgy. (O/D OFF light does flash from time to time). Anyway thank you for any imput guys, its really appreciated TravisT

mellonman
oil levels can cause issues normally not letting it change gear ,but make sure you are checking them correctly with the engine running
Shane
Its easy to lose some of the excess fluid and to get the level right, just pull one of the cooler pipes of where they join the cooler at the bottom of the rad. Carefull though as it does get hot so may be worth doing it from cold.
David P
Note that the fluid level will appear too high if you check the dipstick without the engine running.
