straightsix Posted August 13, 2014 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Yes, they're supposed to be stiff but if it's not opening when it's in boiling water then it's had it. Most motor factors should have one - just make sure they give you the correct one (a lot of times they've bought mk3 stats to the counter and I've had to correct them!) I hear this a lot but have never had any issues out of about 30 non genuine thermostats fitted to mine and customer's cars.
