SPG
Hi Colin, you are probably best sticking to the V160 fluid from Toyota

Silece2k6
Use some 75w90. Today all fluids are much better then 20Years ago :-) I used "cheap" 75w90 from "Mannol" API GL4 and it shifts much better then the original Toyota with no issues. Don't use API GL5!!! Gpro
royal purple syncromax , best one to use, very smooth gear changes and you won't struggle to change gears in cold conditions on startup

You are the first who saiy that Please check this "http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?478147-What-kind-of-oil-goes-in-the-V160" I don't think the V160/1 are that "SPECIAL" Gearbox who only run with the "Million Money Toyota Fluid" A friend use 75w90 aswell with no problems since 2years Edited August 11, 2014 by Silece2k6 (see edit history)

Silece2k6
After Hours of reading different threads I decieded on royal purple syncromax. Seems to work fine. If you are able to get the RP then use this. There are many people out there who use Castrol Transmax Z without Problems for years. I know a few who use this in 700hp+ Supras cheers

Lee P
The v160 uses an ATF fluid, 75w90 gear oil is too thick Why not? jon_dragon
The Toyota V160 fluid is discontinued and has been replaced by some sort of power steering fluid so the part description suggests. 08885-01306 is the new part number and it only comes in 5 litres even though you only need 2. The old part number is 08885-01306 (1ltr)
Guest mojje
The v160 uses an ATF fluid, 75w90 gear oil is too thick indeed, dont put this thick oil in a v160 gearbox, the v160 use an atf oil, if you cant find the v160 fluid "regular atf dextron III should be the same" and dont wanna use dextron atf oil then use the oil bmw recomend for the getrag in some m3 gearbox the m3 gearbox with a yellow label, that gearbox is identical with v160 gearbox and it is in the same family and also use a atf oil, this is the best oil "and same as v160 oil" but under the bmw name. cheers //Mojje
Silece2k6
Ok guys ure right. I will Chance to atf of Castro transmax. But what should happen if i use "thick" oil like 75w-90? I drive this a few km without any issues.

I drive this a few km without any issues. I would not recommend the Castrol Transmax oil. I used it last time I changed my gear oil, the box didnt feel so good under hard pulls with fast shifts with that oil. I would go with the Toyota fluid or RP. jazz1
I put RP but have not drove 2 miles with it in as it's gone straight to the garage, when my single build starts I already have original Toyota gear oil and I'm going to stick with that only. Guest Budz86
After using the Mr T stuff, I won't use anything else. Not cheap, but nothing is on these cars. Pays to protect your investment.....

I'm not the "fast shifter" and don't drive the quarter mile or anything else. Maybe the Transmax will do a good job or not. If not, it's Toyota's time:)
Ric
Read here: http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?764074-The-Great-V160-Fluid-Challenge.... Toyota T-IV atf fluid is the closest match.
