BPU Question

Hey. I have a USDM 93 TT and I have done the double decat just recently. I have been reading and studying this topic several times: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?94705-BPU-(Basic-Performance-Upgrade)

I saw that I should have something like 0.85 bar after the decat, but I did hit boost cut once last week which I presume is from hitting 1 bar or more. Is this possible on a stock US spec? (Engine light flash and loss of power).

I am putting the stock exhaust back on after the car goes in for winter storage as I have a MOT in the spring again.

But after that I am doing the decat and HKS exhaust again, am I safe doing only the decat or should I change the plugs and get a fcd? I am not looking for more power I just want the added sound.

I have nearly the same spec as you at the moment except with a HKS fcd and platinum plugs.

I've never hit fuel cut. Was it cold where you were at the time? As temp can effect things.

If you have an FCD you wont hit fuel cut but you could be over boosting if it works

the same as a j spec set up.

Do you have a boost gauge showing what boost its making.

Was just meaning a fcd might sort out the issue. The waste gate is bigger on export models hence why a ebc is needed to up the boost as it won't reach 1.2 bar like the jspec does with the cats out. It also doesn't need a restricor ring, that's just for Jspecs I believe.

I don't know what I'm talking about, but for me fitting a fcd would probbably be the next logical step?

My car is imported from USA so it has to be a export car so it should have the steel turbos. It was like 20 'C and it was a long third gear pull. and before shifting it cut out.

What I thought was my next logical step was new plugs and fcd. But I got worried as the engine light flashed and it cut out. I do not have a boost gauge atm :(

I had the same issue with mine, I was hitting fuel cut just with the double de cat and cat back exhaust. Make sure you are running a cooler plug and fit a FCD this will fix it. Uk/USDM are the same I some times hit 1.1 bar at high speed runs. No BC fitted.

Strange i never hit fuel cut on my car when it was de catted and with Super Drager exhaust, good to know

your only getting to 1.1 bar, much over 1.3 i think and your just creating heat on stock turbo's

I know dunk I didn't understand how I was but I did. The thing is I checked the boost before and after the decats with the same boost gauge and I was getting the correct boost readings. But recently I've hit over 1bar like I said.

From previous posts I thought the uk spec would not go over 1 bar :-/
