supraGZaerotop
Ok, last night on way home the car was fine, did drive it hard tho. This morning, pulled out of garage to find this I checked lvls all seemed hood so i thought id use it as its my main transport, anyways i got about 3 miles and the car started sluttering, missing by the feels of it. Idle is low and up and down. Il couldint go above 40 due to this problem, car feels terrible. Hope its nothing major, but i anit holding my breath, leak on floor that seems to be coolant a major miss fire, not good me thinks, i just parked it up and took my missus car :-( any ideas? peter richards
coolent leak try replacing the rad cap , misfire could be the coilpack clips
supraGZaerotop
Yeah but its both same time, look more into it over weekend now. Its just strange, leak and mis, im preparing myself for head gasket, but i didint think these suffered from that. But then its 21 year old, somethings bound to go at some point. supraGZaerotop
Cars only got about 103,000miles onit.
Swampy442
Check for coolant in the plug wells, that may be the cause of the misfire/rough running.
supraGZaerotop
How would coolent be in the wells? Will do tho, that would mean head gasket??
Swampy442
Could be a split hose coming from the back of the head to the heater control valve, thats a common failure. Just an idea mate Did you 100% confirm it was coolant and not auto box fluid? (If you do indeed have an auto lol)
supraGZaerotop
hi, i did dip my finger in it and put it on my tongue, was bitter, my rad is full, but my expansion tank is down on the low, i topped it up the other day becuase i had a pipe leaky the other day at the bk by where you said but on top by back of cam cover!, clip was on a bit dodgy, i moved the clip up and thats ok now. id love it if it was just a bloody pipe. just gone out now quick, car starts perfect runs smooth no miss, i didint have time to leave it warm right up tho, got my baby daughter to look after. will have a good look on weekend, taking it up my mates garage, hes very good, jap cars are his speciality. peter richards
its bound to come out if the caps off , the cap on I take it preasurises the system - - - Updated - - - whats the oil cap like on the inside of the cap
supraGZaerotop
oil cap is fine, had a good look, nothing but the black stuff. when ive been reading older threads about this sort of thing they say take rad cap out for bleeding in that it shoulding come out should it, but draw it in, or is that when the thermo is open. ive read about read pipes bursting and spilling coolent into plug valley! listy
I'm not an expert, but if coolant is being forced out like that, you might have air in the system. I can leave mine at idle, with the rad cap off, and it doesn't do that.
supraGZaerotop
I think, but hope not, head gasket! if it is tho, shall i go for hks gasket or toyota oem? Also is headgasket known on these as they are getting older?
Swampy442
JZs are not know for head gaskets, and just get a stock one. But, it won't be head gasket! The first burp was air, the second rise before the end of the vid is normal. As fluid get hot, it expands, levels rise
supraGZaerotop
in the garage earlier, found this in number 6 plug well. i cannot see anything leaking from the rear pipe tho! take it that red should not be there?
supraGZaerotop
Thank GOODNESS for that, found the problem, see vid lol, off to toyota in a bit now, they overnighted me a new part. £34 inc new clips, http://s331.photobucket.com/user/supraGZaerotop/media/new%20supra%202011%20photos%20etc/IMG_5734_zps386ce263.mp4.html
Swampy442
Isn't that EXACTLY what I said?
supraGZaerotop
Isn't that EXACTLY what I said? Yip you were right lol, thank god. Bloody pig of a job tho, for me anyway. Right between the engine and bulk head, i couldint get pipe off, i had to go to halfords to buy one of them plyers thats got a bend init so i could get at the clip and even then i had to take off the turbo to inlet pipe that runs behind. Always get a bit well you know with doing certain jobs on these now because certain bits and bobs are quite frail and easy to damage something else in the process . Nice new pipe
Silece2k6
Did now the "coolant line" had a crack or the Plug who goes down the cylinder head? Maybe mine had the same issue, but not that big...
supraGZaerotop
there was a small split in the rubber hose right along the bottom clip, seems as tho the clip over time maybe cut into it, not sure, but the only way you will see it leaking is with plug cover off and engine running, if its leaking you will see it plain as day, well you can see in the video i posted. these cars are getting on now, il probably be replacing hoses for the next couple years on and off now i expect, ive already replaced rad hose, (oem toyota), vac lines (apart from the really awkward ones behind engine, this coolent hose now, ive got a replacment intercooler to go on off a low mileage car, il love to do others bits and bobs but its suprising how much toyota want for some of the bigger pipes under the bottom.Did now the "coolant line" had a crack or the Plug who goes down the cylinder head? Maybe mine had the same issue, but not that big...
