Guest jaz205gti
Hi folks im new on here iv got hold of a 95 supra auto jap import I love it , but it’s got a problem with the auto box problems im encountering o/d light flashes sometimes? While driving the car will sometime goes crazy and only selects first gear I take my foot off so it drops the revs sometimes it will go into second others it won’t? With the help of this site iv done the self-diagnostics test the engine light flashed constantly but the o/d light flashed code 61 speed senor 2? Can anyone shed only light on this will the senor cause me only 1 gear? Sometimes it drives fine maybe indicating a lose wire or something? Could old transmission fluid cause this problem as I think it hasn’t been changed in 10 years cars only driven about 20k in 10 years any help please ? LOGIE
Sounds like you've answered your own question. The fluid should be changed along with the autobox filter/strainer. The ATF fluid should be red in colour. Id start with changing the fluid and strainer and checking sensor connections whilst you down there. Swampy442
Has it got a speedo convertor?
Guest jaz205gti
if you mean converted to mph then yes
David P
If it turns out to be a dicky speed sensor, I have a spare.
Swampy442
The first place to look would be the convertor, take that out and see if the problem persists.
Guest jaz205gti
You mean take the dash out check the wires? im sure the sensor is in the auto box . David is it a speed sensor 2 with abs? how much do you want for it?
Swampy442
The speed convertor, it will be a little box, generally behind the dash, remove that. They are the cause of 90% of gearbox problems.
David P
Check the speed convertor wiring first.
Guest jaz205gti
Take speed converter out? What does it do and will it cause any problems i dont even know what it looks like
Si_s Supe
The speed converter most likely sits behind your clocks. You can't miss it! It'll be a non-standard looking part that's spliced into the wiring. It converts the speed sensor signals to make your speedo read MPH instead of the original KPH. If it develops a fault, then your ECU will be getting all sorts of conflicting info, this causing odd shifting. This us why the suggestions above are to disconnect it and go for a drive. Your speedo will read KPH. If your odd shifting is cured, buy a new converter. If not, look elsewhere!
