Chris Wilson
Here's some info on a Lexus V8 converted to run in an F3000 chassis. it would be a totally useless engine in a heavy road car though..... http://www.pistonheads.com/Gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=907264&mid=0&nmt=Toyota+Lexus+1UZ+Race+Engines and http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9639 Edited September 9, 2014 by Chris Wilson (see edit history)
Guest Raven
That Ed dude is on crack! Ha, IIRC he sunk 20k (dollars) into that set up....at least! but hats off to him indeed (mentioned on another forum) Austrailian stock cars and powerboat tuners seem to have the know how for top NA games but the info is closley guarded, that Ed chap seems is pioneer on bringing the info to the masses on the net, check his numerous posts on V-eight.com, fairly heavy reading tho. All is not lost however, the reason I mentioned getting it dynoed was My 1UZ 2nd gen officially quoted at 260bhp put down 296bhp with no cats and an cold air feed, potentially a VVTI could put out mid 350ish I dont know, maybe they over quoted the 3uz however its worth knowing for sure IMO the only tuning worth doing NA after exhaust and air feed, is cams possibly some ecu tuning (piggy back seems to be enough for reasonable NA gains) if your die hard NA. ITBS will just be a pig to run, and drive poorly for every day use only putting any "gain" into a condensed power band To answer another question I saw posted, at 6psi vortech supercharged 400Bhp, with semi slicks and driven like a twat my W58 is still fine after 4 years. Iv just seen your in greater london where abouts?
msmile
Reasonable post Raven! I had never lost faith in w58 if mine breaks I will get it reinforced (and 5th gear 'prolonged') That still costs less than r154, not even talking about v160... Chris Wilson
Far too little torque, delivered at silly RPM's for anything approaching a normal service life, vastly expensive, and totally MPG and emissions unfriendly. Would be impossible in front of an auto box, and nigh on un-drivable in traffic. Pure race engine, but shows they can produce some useful BHP figures when wildly modified. Guest Raven
St182 tach Circuit VS Supra JZA80 . . . . . . cant remember which is which 1 or two of the mounting holes line up as standard, which in my opinion was enough to hold it in place fine, it fits in place in the cluster and the supra needle fits on fine so mounting it is really not an issue, however to connect the terminals I soldered 3 short bits of wire between the circuit board shown and the floppy circuit board on the back of the supra gauge cluster, for some reason i didnt, take a pic of this..... nor have I had a chance to test it yet as iv had an aftermarket tach fitted for the last 5 years...... so not much help really other than a picture of a ST182 mechanism vs a supra one. I picked up the 182 one for £10 on ebay for the whole cluster

msmile
Theres one more question about tachos: has enyone tried fitting LS400 tacho and why doesnt it fit?
Guest Raven
If youve got one there try taking it out and comparing it to the pics, any 4cyl tack will work ie operate correctly, and theres quite a lot of scope to bodge things into the supra cluster, you will see when u start taking it apart, if it looks at all similar it should be ok. msmile
The thing is 1uz vvti gives 8 pulses insted of old UZ giving 4 pulses, so 4cylinder tachos wont work. Anyway, it seems to be quite simple solution to use LS400 tacho, wondering why nobody spoken about that.

Anyway, it seems to be quite simple solution to use LS400 tacho, wondering why nobody spoken about that. I'm going to use a 4 cylinder tacho and make it forgot about every other pulse. I do believe you can alter the tacho with a variable resistor to alter the pulse to turn ratio. Paul woods did this on MR2's when fitting the V6's rather than fit a 2JZGE tacho board in the cluster. Nodalmighty
I should be able to recalibrate the stock tacho to suit the V8 pulse. Same principal as converting 4 to 6.

msmile
Sorry guys, its been a long time with no updates, but something was going on. First of all, was looking for a vacuum leak somewhere, so had to take the intake manifold off. It appeared injector seals were leaking air. Heres how it looks naked And Yes!!! I made it to Bluewater! The engine is still in limp mode for some reason. As my OBD2 socket is on the way now, will find out soon. But it drives ok and pulls very well up to 3k rpm
