I often think about doing this in the future. Had a TT which I sold to buy a house. Now I have an NA which I planned on selling to buy a TT (don't see the point in NA-TT when you can buy original) but my shell I so nice, would be great to have a V8. And that noise!! 😍

That's already done in the states, but LS engines are expensive. Either Uz or Jaguar Aj engines are cheap, plentiful and light. The supercharged AJs can make some serious power too.

I see no point at going v8 and supercharging it. Check this link, you can get 600hp from natually aspirated toyota v8, so I would say N/As always give you more fun that forced induction engines.

Looking at the work done to get that V8 to 600hp, wouldn't it be (a lot?) cheaper to just turbo or s/charge it?

I know nothing about tuning V* engines, so the above is a question, not a statement :)

Seems to be a huge amount of work, for (what I guess is) quite a lot of money, for (in the grand scheme of things) not a lot of gain, compared to turbo'ing or supercharging.

To get 400bhp is from N/A 1uz is cheaper than to get 400bhp from 2jz-gte (if counting the conversion price together), but If you want 500+ bhp - go for 2jz-gte. Cheapest and easiest way to get the horses :) but you must be sick in some way if 400 is not enough :D

Interested to know how you are planning to get 400bhp out of an Na 1uzfe,

also have you removed all the cats in your conversion?

would be great to see a dynograph of a derestricted VVTI 1uz you never know could be not far off 400 as it is

Check the link above mate, there are detailed writeups how you get 420 and 600 bhp out of 1uz N/A.

I will surely try dyno after I finish with full decat.

Meanwhile few more things sorted, and heres the first start :) Cant get enough fuel pressure for some reason...

no, it runs Lexus setup with relay switching between resistor and 12volts, but that shouldnt be a problem as it is a stock setup.

So because it's stock, it couldn't possibly be a problem? And it must be operating correctly if you don't see the need to check anything?

Just trying to help get to the bottom of your low fuel pressure.....

Thanks for the tip! It was fuel pressure regulator failure. Need to get a new one.

Hello.

Awesome project. That V8 sounds incredibly sexy.

But sorry to barge into your topic. I'm also doing a V8 swap. Only my v8 still on the ground unfortunately.

Anyway I am very curious on how your going to run your stock tach (that is if your using the stock tach).

Are you going to modify you tach or just using a converter/adaptor?

Thanks

subscribed.

I'm about to swap my soarer 1uz for a 3uz

You had any thoughts on the rev counter? My non VVTI works on the stock gauge with MR2 guts in it, but that won't work when I go to the VVTI 3UZ

Sorry to jump in but the 3UZ picks up tacho signal feed from pin 16 on the ECU - plug E5 (Black/yellow tracer). I'd have thought it should wire up the same to the tacho input on the cluster.

I know it's not relevant to your build msmile, but hope you don't mind as it's all V8 relative! :)

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you said here but does this means the vvti still sends 4 pulse? I thought the vvti engines sends out a 8 pulse tach signal.

I have I think a Celica tach somewhere and Techstream. Ill try this out tomorrow if the weather allows.

Thanks for the heads up.

Any info regarding tacho conversion helps as this is the only point still in doubt. I do really want to use stock tacho (with or without mr2 guts) and have few ideas how to do that but nothing certain yet.

Kenny - Celica mk1 tacho can be switched between any input, but 1.its really hard to find it breaking 2.not sure the tacho will fit Supra dash

Let us know how it goes!

I will try to use tacho signal switch from some aftermarket tachos.

I disassembled a celica tacho and used that - I've got it in my head that it came from an ST182 model

If you bend the four metal tabs out (the ones that hold the circuit board on) you can pull the circuit board from the needle mount assembly. Replace with the celica circuit board and re-drill the holes ever so slightly on the Supra cluster housing so the screws will go in and still contact the floppy circuit board on the back of the cluster.

If that makes sense.......

Can you link to the 420bhp writeup? Could only see the one with 600bhp. 420bhp is over 100hp / litre and stock are under 300bhp? I cant see how that is possible naturally aspirated without head work, cams, ecu etc..
