GSR2007
Hi folks when fitting my fcd I spotted that my car has an A/T ecu?,the was was originally an na with w58 and was converted to TT the car seems to be running fine sometimes idles a bit lumpy and cuts out by searched the forum and diagnosed a faulty/dirty iacv which will be coming out the weekend, just said I'd ask would running the auto ecu be damaging to my engine down the line I'd rather change it than it doing damage to the health of the car thanks in advance
straightsix
It's fine on the Auto ECU - very common to leave the auto ECU in place when doing manual conversions
David P
I believe that an auto ECU retains timing retard for auto trans changes, which feels randomly odd when used with manual transmission. It won't damage your engine, but you'll find the car would have more power and be a better drive with a manual ECU.
Fitz
As above. Most likely the donor engine was from a TT Auto car and they took the ECU with it.
straightsix
Personally, if it were my car I'd want to get a manual ECU

Dazzi
I had an auto to Manual na and it had a right flat spot when booting it. Felt exactly like the pause before the auto box shifts down. A manual ecu sorted this
