r0cknr0lla
Finished cleaning rear arches today.. had min time so will get stuck into front and underside (including subframes) next time I got a day off. r0cknr0lla
Another day off resulted in battle of the arches... got the front done and look really good too. Before and After images. Also had a go at the front subframe etc and looks a million times better.. not quite as clean as Id like it to be though so will be having round two next time along with under the car. r0cknr0lla
Quick update.. got the fuel tank cover off.. in the bin. Cleaned up rear underside and a touch of paint.. looks mint.... Finished cleaning the front end too and starting to look like something is actually happening now Also started the engine bay smoothing.. quite a job but I must say I'm very excited to what it looks like when its done. Filled all the small holes today, big ones will have to wait for another day. Filler will be nice and set next time so I can start sanding too... r0cknr0lla
Got to work again on engine bay today, sanding nearly completed.. only the awkward spots I need to do by hand still. Started prepping the larger holes at the front for filling so can seal them up next time. Going to have to pull the engine bay loom out so I can work on the rear holes. This will be tucked anyhow. Also started stripping the heater matrix out so I close up the hole for AC pipes. Hopefully get all this smoothing done next gap I get. Finished cleaning underside of car today first.. hadn't dried when I left as was too cold so that will be ready for some paint next time too.. then the underside of the car is completed. Decided on replacing the NS front wing rather than repairing the current one as well as having the OS rear wing dent paintless removed.. I will be filling the bodywork holes from aerial and wiper etc myself so there will be no bodywork while it's in for paint. Sneaky pic of the wings off in it's current state... r0cknr0lla
After some time away from the car I got quite a bit done today.. although it may not seem that way it is all pretty time consuming. Started off by finishing the underside of the car... coat of paint did wonders and looks like new underneath now.. Before: After: Also whipped the heater matrix out completely so i had access to the hole for the AC pipes via the cabin: Followed by getting the engine loom out to free up the holes... In light of this I was then able to start prepping the all the large holes for filling: The front larger holes got their filler today so will be flattening out next time round along with the awkward smaller one still to do by hand: Edited November 11, 2014 by r0cknr0lla (see edit history)
TheTurtleshead
Mate you need to weld all those holes up before you smooth them with filler...! Doing it like you've done they will almost certainly all crack very quickly. The big ones straight away and the little one's one by one will crack and drop out. r0cknr0lla
Mate you need to weld all those holes up before you smooth them with filler...! Thanks for the heads up mate, I did a LOT of reading about before making a final decision and this seemed to be relatively suitable for the smooth over.. I understand where you are coming from although the car is not going to be used as a daily at all.. only very seldom and will be tucked away from the weather too. Because of this I decided to go this route rather than sending the car elsewhere to be welded up. Mainly part of the fact the I would like to do as much work to the car myself. I have however made sure that the adhesive is bonded both sides so the holes should be good to go for a while at least. Again I am no brainer so I may be wrong.. Hopefully will be ok in the end. Guest Nicholas
As James says that will crack the first time you drive it, you should really weld the holes, John Hodgeson used chemical metal to do his white car so you 'may' get away with using that but if it was my car id weld them up! Rob_Mitchell
That engine bay aint going to last 5 mins. Should weld in plates and then use as little filler as possible (skim).
r0cknr0lla
Thanks for all your posts guys.. I am rethinking this now and will redo what I've done so as not to have any issues when its completed. Appreciate the feedback.
r0cknr0lla
Update.. been a while since I got time on the car so did a few odds and ends today. From previous feedback regarding the bay smoothing I knocked out the filler and will be leaving the larger holes in bay to be welded up whilst in for paint. Did some cleaning up of the black trim today and will be ready for a new coat of paint next time. Also cleaned up the heatshields.. looking good so far. And now I'd like to welcome you to "The Matrix"... What a job this was and Im really glad I went through all that because I can now sort this out.... Scary stuff.. can't believe that would be breathed in!! Ordered new protectors and plugs for the rear spoiler to be fitted, got a replacement NS front wing from Natony too... I did however discover this today... Not a happy camper at all, wasn't visable there before so think the cold weather had something to do with it.. been patched up and filled with body filler previously. Kinda happy I found it in a way I suppose. Few more bits to do then planning on sending for paint Jan/Feb.. exciting stuff! Mike2JZ
Where did you source your front bumper from? Is the fitment more or less as it should be? Looking to get the same for mine

r0cknr0lla
Where did you source your front bumper from? Is the fitment more or less as it should be? Looking to get the same for mine Knightracer... despite some posts on here I tried them out, have to say I was impressed at the service and delivery time. Fitment is pretty good too with no major alterations needed. Will need some smoothing over though, particularly where the facelift markers would go.. otherwise, can't complain hey. JeroenK.
Already decided on a color? if not, since you are looking at a blue tint already anyways, why not look at BMW's Estoril Blue?? personally my favorite blue color on a car ever so far! Looks to be a good project, definately going to follow on it!

I do like that blue yes, very similar to what I was opting to go for - Viper GTS Blue http://www.bjmotors.biz/images/inventory/1996-dodge-viper-gts-heffner-twin-turbo-blue-white-0205/large_04.jpg Although to be honest I am still in two minds about Black or Blue lol
