sz aero supra
for some time now my oddometer seems to stop working and then randomly starts working again.pulled dash off today and done the code 42 fix ,reset the ecu.had a detailed look at the soldering which looks fine.put it back together have sorted the code 42,but oddometer still not reading anything.im gonna take the odddometer unit to my dads work where somebody can look at the unit under magnification to see if any soldering has gone dry.if this fails what other options do i have to get the oddometer working again?my speedo goes up to 120mph but oddometer is reading in kmh.dont know weather it has a speedo converter fitted.can anybody give me a link on this site or know where i can get this sorted?? Guest Roger NE
It may be that you need a replacement from a scrap car . . .
sz aero supra
ok what happens to the mileage on my car?
stevie_b
You said you've "done the code 42 fix", but what was the fix exactly? If the odomoter isn't counting up, I wouldn't be surprised if you've still got code 42. If you swap the odometer with one from a different car, your odometer reading will change to that of the donor unit. The number is stored in the odometer circuit, not in the ECU or anywhere else. LOGIE
I believe the milage can be altered in the odometer units. Which can be frowned upon but id prob do it. Just to keep my MOT milage consistent and if you have an agreed milage with your insurance company.

Guest Roger NE
Well the odometer reading is never a guarantee of the actual mileage of the vehicle, as anyone can fit another speedometer/odometer . . Plus a lot of Mk4s are imports, with the reading in Kilometres . . . or even half and half ! Personally I'd just fit a secondhand one (given that they very rarely go wrong) and just make a note of the mileage reading compared to the one you take out - it may of course be higher or lower.
