Hi guys this is probably a really naff question.

Is the 6 speed gearbox from a lexus is200 the same as the 6 speed gearbox that fits in a supra??

Im really sorry if this has been asked before as i did a search but nothing came up.

No. The IS200 shares it's gearbox with the Nissan S15, and it is quite a weak gearbox. Even the 5 speed W58 found in the NA Supra is stronger.

The only car that shares the Supras Getrag 6 speed is the Nissan Skyline R34 GTR.

If you're looking for strong gearboxes, BMW use a 6 speed Getrag on some models that has an even higher toque rating than the V160/V161, and the Tremec 6 speed found in various American cars (and the Monaro IIRC) is quite tough.

Is that definite? I thought there was a BMW that had the gearbox too.... and a few other cars. All different codes of course.

No, as far as I'm aware the BMW Getrags are different, and there's a few of them. The one found in the e36 M3 Evo, and then the toughest one is found in the 850 and a few other models IIRC. Obviously a lot of the newer BMWs come with 6 speeds, though I've no idea how tough they are. One of the diesel ones might be worth looking at, though I have no idea about the ratios on them.
