Fitting front strut brace question

It's been sitting in my conservatory for a while now and seeing as I'm having a bash at fitting my stubby aerial conversion today, I may as well get round to my front strut brace (and OEM airbox if I'm lucky).

Quick (thicko) question, I fitted one years ago to my MR2 tubby and didn't really think about it, but now I'm wondering if I loosen the bolts on the top of the struts, will anything be likely to drop away etc?

Is this a job for being jacked up or can it be done on the floor.

Cheers in advance.

I'm guessing I do away with the original black surrounds?

I've taken them off just now, placed all my nuts (ooh er) neatly out of harms way and fitted the brace... Decided to clean up a few dusty bits in the engine bay and conveniently swept one of the nuts down into the bay behind the bumper.

This could be a long day....

I fitted mine maybe 8 months bk. i was wondering about the oem black surrounds, i decided to leave them in place as there us enough thread there, still in no issues, should i have removed them then? Another reason why i left them is because i didint want my brace marking my towers and those stock surround are a perfect fit as they would be!
