Front Tyres only lasting 3 months???

Hi there,

I have had my supra for 3 months now, during the SVA they put on new tyres all round but the fron ones are already shot!!

the inside quarter of them is heavily worn , no tread left! but the outside is fine!

Someone told me that my Supra had been lowered when it arrived but I did not pay much attention.

Only logical thing I can imagine is that my front Camber is way out! , is this an easy fix??

The rear tyres are just fine!

But this is a pain in the asssssssssss... I hate buying new tyres!!

Chris.

Sounds like you urgently need a 4-wheel alignment check!!. Any changes from stock settings, including wheel size, tyre size, ride height etc can have a serious effect on tyre wear. Do a search for recommended alignment centres, who can check toe, camber and castor.

My car gets through 2-3 sets of rears to 1 set of fronts

Same with me - when I got the car the fronts had been heavily cambered in Japan - Finally got ATS to do a full recalibration - its not cheap, they use lasers to align all the wheels and stuff, not many places have the facilities - ATS in Horsham did mine. I say "did" - I have just been out to the car and I have heavy wear on the inside fronts still (not as bad as before, but a pain nethertheless!)

We have had this before. Quite a few so called four wheel alignments have alot to be desired. If it is still srubbing they did it wrong. Take it back if you trust them to get it right.

IMHO you need to take it to somewhere that knows how to set up performace or track cars not daily shoppers.

I agree Phil, I had massive problems with my cambers on the front, again insides wearing quickly. Took it to 2 different places who both said they were unable to adjust the camber on the drivers side as it was hitting its "max", eventually took it to a 3rd garage, and they came back and said that once they had loosened "it", they could adjust it fine. I am still yet to see any evidence of uneven wear, its been 4-5 months now, but in the next couple of weeks I shall be getting the tracking re-alined as its starting to pull to the left more and more these days. But I couldnt find a garage that specialise in setting up track cars and stuff like that, its ok if you know of places, but a nightmare if you dont.

Anyone know of anywhere like this in the Hants, Surrey, Middlesex or London way.........???

I can recommend a place called Cambridge Car Centre in (you guessed it) Cambridge. They did my Mk3 and did a very good job, they sell Lotuses so they ought to know a bit about suspension. They even washed it once they'd done and didn't mind me going along when the mechanic test drove it.
