The Raven
If it protected anything Toyota would have built one in IMO
Gaz6002
I'm not sure how not having a BOV would make your bearings fail.
Ric
If it protected anything Toyota would have built one in IMO They did? the stock one.

The Raven
They did? the stock one. My bad I didn't read it properly and assumed he had a stock and was going to atmospheric aftermarket

JamieP
Good thread on the subject. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?264887-Do-we-bother-with-dump-valves-anymore
Krimi
Mmmmm, depends on what amount of boost you run, whatever, its difficult to know what its better, some friends here have nissan silvias with GT30 installed and no BOV, only surge, and the car holds good for 5 years and still alive today... In my project Im not going to install any BOV with the 67mm turbo, Its your decision, choose what sound you like more, I dont trust the other people that say "If you dont have BOV you can destroy your turbo in a few days" Thats bullshit under my knowledge... Dont waste money, If your car runs good, don't change anything.
j_jza80
I'd be more concerned about running a cheap turbo than the pros and cons of BOVs. While no turbo is immune from failure, buying a respected brand such as Garrett, Borgwarner, precision etc will stand you in the best stead for performance and reliability. Chris Bailey
There's no real performance gain, its like a marmite. You either love or hate them.
