C_Strike
Really starting to lose my love for my supra with all its problems at the moment:'( Would love to find out why for the last two days my engine is trying/ managing to cut out mid drive. The engine cut out completely (electrics where left running) and stranded me on a busy roundabout so I put it in park, turned the ignition fully off and tried to restart it and nothing. It only started again after about a two minutes of being left alone. The engine runs fine whilst its running but it sounds like its trying to choke itself. Il get to 2k revs in D and itl suddenly drop completely, a second later it pops back up to normal. I only got home by keeping it in 2 and keeping high revs for the mile home. What can I check? Clean? Do? Any help will be appreciated.
hiten55
not sure if its relevent, or even related but when I first got mine it used to stall randomly on pull off. Like it didnt know what to do so just shut itself down. I took it to Toyota, useless, then someone on here suggested cleaning or changing the gearbox sensor. Pulled it out, gave it a clean and hey presto problem fixed.... worth a shot.....
C_Strike
Will try to check that. Is it easy to access? Any other suggestions?
C_Strike
If it helps diagnosing, when it dies I cannot light the 'manu' button on the gearshifter. Seems like I can only restart the engine when the light illuminates again
ScottC
Have you checked for fault codes?
C_Strike
Was just trying but it seems we have no power to the light panel with the engine light...which doesnt help lol
purplewitch
Gearbox sensor help worked for me too - mine used to just die on roundabouts when you're off the accelerator as you start to go round, hasn't done it at all since I got that sensor cleaned
C_Strike
Whrre do I locate the sensor? Cheers
David P
I'm not sure what a "gearbox sensor" is? yet I'd be suspicious of the speed sensor (location - rear of transmission) or throttle position sensor (location - throttle body).
Poshmalc
Sounds like a faulty starter relay to me, I've had this problem too!
shaz2010
I'm sure I've read that aftermarket BOV can cause the auto to stall....
Poshmalc
Why would the bov make it stall? think it through logically FFS
Ric
Why would the bov make it stall? think it through logically FFS Why would a starter relay? once it's running...
Poshmalc
The starter relay does effect the engine stalling actually smart arse, I've had it happen on mine! As soon as you change it out of N it cuts the car out and the engine itself sounds like it has dropped a cylinder. My suggestion was from experience, not from internet bullshit! Very poor response to an obvious question. Hopefully you're not as much of a smart arse yourself when people ask you something. This is a community after all. Anyway my curry is burning. Chris Wilson
Does the check engine warning light come on reliably, every time you turn on the ignition, but without attempting to crank the engine? Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it?
np89
Why would the bov make it stall? think it through logically FFS Also a BOV will cause the auto to stall if its MAF as in UK and VVTI.......... do you need me to explain the logic or just call you a taxi?....... Poshmalc
I'm pretty sure I know what it is and tomorrow, hopefully we will have fixed it! One thing I do know for definite, is it won't be the BOV.
