Tommyd16
My ps is leaking quite badly. It's coming from the rack and appears to be around where the shaft from the steering wheel joins the rack and running down the hose that goes to the ps cooler (possibly the one that goes to the pump) hard to tell exactly as can't get to a ramp until next month. But does anyone have ideas what it could be? I have a RHD but you get the idea
Guest Roger NE
Well obviously check that you don't have a loose connector . . . or that one of the hoses have split But it could possibly that you have hit something that has caused a crack. At least it's not dangerous . . . keep topping the PAS fluid up . . . and the worst that would happen is you lose power assistance (but being a man you'll still be able to steer the car - once upon a time no cars had PAS, even heavy cars like Mk2 jags!) Tommyd16
Hoses are good. I replaced them as is what I thought it was at first. I'll have to check the connections when I get a chance.
Guest Roger NE
Remember the hoses/lines from the pump to the rack are at extremely high pressure . . . so the slightest flaw will cause a leak The return hoses from the rack to the PAS reservoir are quite low pressure, and less of a problem. Tommyd16
Ok cheers. Will look into this when I get a chance
Konrad
I had a leak once through rotten banjo pipe connecting to steering box (pressure Feed Tube), it simply rusted through under plastic cover and was leaking.
Tommyd16
Had some time today so the jack out. Seems I have the same problem as above ^^ bodged it for now until I order parts. Wrapped it in self fusing tape and secured it at both ends. Stopped the leak for now
Tommyd16
Anyone know the part number for the pressure feed tube? And copper washers?

Tommyd16
That doesn't actually show the part number for the pressure feed hose, Just the bolt
Chris Wilson
Yes it does, I have added another image highlighting it. Specsavers? You probably can't afford a proper optician given the price of the hose
Guest Roger NE
There are cheaper options . . . Personally I fitted a good s/h one (which I think came from Chris Wilson!) - just made sure before fitting I cleaned and painted the metal sections to stop any corrosion. Driftmotion (in the USA) do a flexible braided PAS hose fairly cheap (although you need to tell them it's for a RHD car) Or you could have one made up at any local hydraulic hose place - you'd just need to take your old one along so they could see what the fittings are. (would probably charge £40 - 50)
Chris Wilson
All the bits to make a new one should be available from motorsport hydraulic places. I would guess £50 is optimistic though.
