Heaters either full cold or full hot

If I have the fan temp at say 20, then it will be fine, if I change it to 25, I got full on hot air coming through like its on the hottest setting. I have changed the heater controls themselves to no avail.

Also, when aircon is on, it comes and goes, you can hear the engine change note when you feel ice cold air coming through, then it will return back to "normal idle" (like aircon is off) even when the aircon button is still lit, and only normal cold air comes through..

What can be the cause of this?

I'm not familiar with the Mk4 heater panel . . . but I imagine it will work in a similar way to the Mk3 system

On these, the control panel develops dry joints - you need to remove it and re-solder EVERY point on the circuit board (especially all the pins that go from one side of the board to the other). But you need to be very thorough - I'm an electronics engineer, and the first time I did mine I hadn't done every pin - had to do it again before it was fixed.

The other thing that's worth doing is using proper Electronic Switch Cleaner/Lubricant in the temperature dial, in case that has any residue causing intermittent connections.

Mk3s exhibit exactly the symptoms you describe . . . re-soldering the board properly always fixes it.
