rob_sri
Hi all.. I have some rust appearing here What's the best way to sort this.. And what products to use to cover it and stop it returning? I was thinking of removing the bootlid lightly sanding the effected area and then using some hammerite high temperature Matt black spray paint? Would this be okay or am I best off using something else? My lid is carbon fibre so no rust there
LOGIE
Personally id remove the bootlid then sand off all rust and apply a coat of kurust from hammerite. Then lightly prime and paint again l. Its in a place that wont be seen so your painting skills dont need to be A1
The-Plethora
I've got the same issue with mine, just waiting for a day or so to get it sorted. My local place said they would paint it but that I would need to remove the boot lid. From what I understand that can be a bit tricky as you have all the wiring and washer tubes etc. They said that it's fine to paint with a rattle can as it's not polished paint anyway so I see their point saving up for a full respray so just to stop it getting worse. rob_sri
Il give it a go and post results! So my thinking is Boot off Sand back Kurust Spray Matt black hi temp Hammerite over the top as it goes on very thick and it seems pretty durable to prevent it coming back
SupraP-Z
Im going to try this on mine too. Is there any other products apart from kurust? Ive used this stuff before, and its not been as effective as advertised

rob_sri
I can't stress enough how important it is to have a friend there to hold the boot why you unbolt it! Don't think I would of been able to do it otherwise
The-Plethora
How much stuff did you have to disconnect to remove the lid?
rob_sri
Not too much as you can see I've disconnected the loom and washer jet and moved it all forward easy enough if you have two
trebor69
Did mine a few weeks ago.....alone.....just undid tailgate and slid it downwards but left everything connected apart from rubbers....rested it on towels in situe like rob.
rob_sri
Reason I say two people is that I attempted to undo it.. With it undone and swaying I regretted my decison immediately and had to call my mate over to help .. And he helped me put it back on too by steadying it whilst I sat in the boot to align it.. May have been more difficult mine being CF.. But it was an arseache!!
trebor69
Mine was heavy as hell, I propped it up with a golf brolly and packed magazines between the rusted part and the top of the tailgate......don't get any bloody help with anything I do on mine ....but that's ok , I have ways and means
rob_sri
Mine was compressed against the lifters and I think being CF it shot up and wobbled about a lot !! Haha fair play hats off to you!!!!
Big Mark
Mine is really bad. About time I got around to doing it. How do you remove the bootlid, does the head-lining need to come off to access bolts?
rob_sri
Nah just a 14mm ratchet spanner on the bolts on the top of the hatch
