T14PPA
I had my car on the ramp a couple days ago to do some work and although my chassis plate has the code for a lsd when i moved one wheel forward the other went backwards. You cant turn both wheels forward. That means no lsd right?
Chris Wilson
No, not necessarily. In fact it suggests it does not have an LSD. Was it in neutral at the time?

T14PPA
I think it was in neutral. So now i have to buy an lsd?
Chris Wilson
I would pull the cover off and have a look inside if you are unsure whether it may not match the transmission code number on the VIN plate. Or you can see with a decent endoscope if anyone you know has one, via the filler plug.

Tricky-Ricky
I always thought that the Supra torsen diff behaved like an open diff, IE the other wheel turns in the opposite direction?
st3ven1
Spin up the rears and see if you leave an "11"(LSD) or a "1"(no LSD) on the road your private driveway.

MRX
I'm not too up on LSD's and why their desired. I understand in principle what they do i.e not letting one wheel slip much more than the other. Do they make a huge difference for launch? or improve handling?
LOGIE
Try reversing or drawing forward very slowly with your steering on full lock. (This is not good for the power steering pump though) you inner rear wheel will judder and skip if you have a LSD. Or so ive been lead to believe. MRX
There is a huge handling benefit to having an LSD. If they're that much better, wonder why they didn't just chuck them on all supra's. Was it an added extra you had to pay for?

They came as standard on many cars but not all. It's about cost - an LSD is very expensive relative to an open diff.
Josh42
As far as I'm aware due to the nature of the TorSen LSD's you can't tell simply by rotating the wheels. You would be best removing the rear cover to check.
Swampy442
A TorSen diff will behave like an open diff if you're just turning the wheels on axle stands, well, every one Ive seen does. If the VIN plate has A02B (for example) and you leave a number 11, ts pretty safe to say its an LSD. The way I test is turning out of a junction, an open diff will light up the inside wheel, a torsen will just scrabble a bit.
stevie_b
All this talk of lighting up the tyres is OK, but how do you do the test if you have an NA?
