sCaz
Hi, Looking at the next thing to throw some money on would either be a complete haulover with bushings, coilovers, new brake discs or some more horsepower with the next step after bpu. Both seems as good choices so I am researching costs for the both of them. My engine got about 75k miles on it and runs real great. I got the j-spec turbos refurbished with steel internals quite recently, from what I can understand this would then be good for about 1.4 bar/20 psi, correct? The car has one walbropump, hks boost controller, full bpu and upgraded cooling for both engine and autobox. I am thinking a set of new injectors along with an aftermarket ECU and half a day at the local tuning shop with the car in TTC shouldn't be too expensive and also the natural step after bpu but before going single. Am I thinking right? Something I am missing? If it is a correct assumption, do you guys have any recommendations as to what aftermarket ECU that would be the most bang for the buck and not too complicated to wire in? I do have an Auto Supra and from what I can read the aftermarket ECUs are often troublesome with those. Can anyone explain why? Some recommendations to injectors would be nice. I have the oem 440cc ones fitted right now and I was looking at the Sard 650cc that mounts straight into the existing fuelrail which sounded quite attractive, but it might just be better to exchange the whole fuelrail right away? Also, does the aftermarket ecu need a wideband lambda connected all the time or is it only for the dyno runs? Thanks for any answers! Nic
I would prioritise suspension and brakes over what would be just a moderate increase in power.
Ian C
Suspension bush refurb Expensive but worth it.
Abz
Yep, agree with both the above. You'll notice a much better drive with better brakes and road handling.
tooquicktostop
Nah, go for power and forget the brakes (hence the name !!) Jokes aside, I went down the BPU ++ route with Syvecs, 550cc's and steel internal turbo's, it was not as cheap as you would imagine and in TTC mode it only made 440bhp, not a lot more than BPU, the cost to move to single was not much cheaper as a result also, I would do the bushes and brakes and then look at a small single in the future

I am looking at similar routes and it seems getting the car set up right is a priority before going for more power and then it is small single instead of hybrids etc. And Syvecs seems to be the best bang for buck from what I've seen ecu wise. tooquicktostop
Syvecs is the flavour of the month, get your build done once and done right, changes to the build in the short term often need MAP tweaks and this all adds up in dyno time and mappers time Still think BPU auto is the best Supra I have ever owned and would really consider if the 8-10K to single properly is worth more in your pocket than on the car
johnny g
Agree with everyone on the above. Suspension and brakes will net you a better result (and dare I say it, advanced driving tuition?) A properly sorted BPU Supra is a great car, and 430bhp is still enough (for most).
sCaz
Thanks for the input guys.. Got the bigger UK brakes front/rear on the car with porterfield front pads with lots of wear left. Discs are a bit cracked on the surface but should last at least for this season. - I went TTC this evening, oh man the car feels alot more fun! - Relearned/reconfigured the HKS EVC with 110 offset and 0.86 bar (12.5 psi) as base and 15-16 psi as set boost (is this normal?) opposed to 10 psi as base and 100 offset manually configured in twin turbo mode before. - Ordered new rear pads. - Ordered Driftworks/HSD MonoPro Coilovers as per recommendation instead of working the engine this season. Next buy will be new discs (probably spring 2015) and bushing depending on the state of the ones on the car (will inspect while mounting coilovers).
