gearbox advice

I'm currently trying to weigh up the pro's and con's for certain gearboxes

I'm planning on running somewhere between 400-500hp, i know a v160/v161 would be the obvious choice but from recent research i don't think i could part with that amount of cash for an unknown gearbox that at best is agricultural.

I've found a place i can import a newer style r154 for £1800 would i be better off with that ?

anyone had any experience with the R154

Lastly the r154 is £1800 plus £300 for a new clutch and then a manual diff £250, so that £2350....nearly 6 speed money

advice please

I know the R154 very well.. Iv used them in my own cars and done tons of manual conversions with them..

They are very much agricultural, everyone that goes from an r154 to a v160 comments on how much nicer the v160 shifts..

After 450hp they become a bit 'hit & miss', they'll take the power for x amount of time, then it'll give up.. There is a handful of weak points, most have an uprated part available from places like driftmotion/marlin crawler. Iv actually got a couple of spare JZ to R154 Bellhousings if you do go this route and need one. There is 2 types of shifter, mk3 supra has a short shifter, and the JZX's use a remote shifter because its a longer car.. I make remote shifters to suit the extra length required in the JZA chassis if you get a mk3 box;)

The 350 boxes are ok, but don't know how reliable they'll be at 500-600hp...

Now, the good option, this is what iv upgraded too for my own car as I want something I can rely on in competition...

A BMW E46 M3 6spd Getrag..

I use an ABCclutch conversion kit, comes with flywheel, Tilton twin plate clutch, etc.. It usually comes in around £2500 to put pretty much ALL the parts together, so it's very competitively priced.

Pm me if you'd like anymore details on this:)
