gordy.r
Ok, just did a quick search in the advanced search function and couldn't find anything, and I know this must have been covered before!?! Obviously the route for big power is a Single conversion. But what about us that would like useable power with minimal hassle / time off the road.. Yes there's the hybrids route, but is there an option to change the twins completely and achieve say circa 600bhp running syvecs etc? I only ask, as I changed my R33 GTR's twins for some Garret GT2860 turbos and an Apexi ECU (plus loads more lol) and this was seen as an acceptable upgrade over hybrids or similar. Just wondering if anyone is running different twins over standard or hybrids and what they are getting?
DodgyRog
The problem with upping power on the sequential set up, is the manifold is quite restrictive, causing a lot of heat
Luxluc
It would be an expensive route to go and would not provide you the power you're looking for. I know that on the RB26 engine, the turbos can be swapped for bigger units. This isn't the case for the sequential setup on the 2JZ engine. If you go for a small turbo (60-61 mm), you will get a very fast spooling setup. My first single setup was a PHR stage 1 kit (60mm turbo). Tbh, it outspooled the stock turbos (on BPU), as the second turbo kicked in around 4k, whereas my little 60mm single turbo kicked in hard around 3500 rpm. A freer flowing manifold would be needed, at which point, you may as well go small single.
gordy.r
Ahhhhh I see! This explains it all now. I was looking at the Whifbitz 60mm billet kit the other day as it looks really good. Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated.
Guest Jason1
I am looking for hybrids at the minute I am just looking for a little more power and a bit shove, Possibly push to 1.4bar I think this would make a good drive.
gordy.r
I see Whifbitz are developing a hybrids set that should be good for circa 500bhp with correct mapping, that could be a good option!?
drew 007
Can you run twin ct20's of the Mr2 rev3 and Celica gt4's?
gordy.r
Can you run twin ct20's of the Mr2 rev3 and Celica gt4's? No idea. But I'm sure someone a lot more knowledgable than me will come along and answer that one.
drew 007
My understanding back when i had the mr2's was that the ct26 found on the early mr2's wasn't as good as the later rev3 ct20 turbo? don't the supra come with twin ct26? That said I've never heard of a supra running ct20's so thats probably a no, hahah,

I have my eye on these already lol I think any good set of Hybrids should see what? around 450bhp but more important a lot more shove. I am not looking for big power and so don't want to go down the single route I just think my car needs a bit of help to get her moving. I always thought the MR2 And GT4 used the single turbo CT26 aren't they?
gordy.r
I used to run my Rev 3 tubby at 1.12 bar all day long and that car took some punishment, great car and engine!

dangerous brain
I see Whifbitz are developing a hybrids set that should be good for circa 500bhp with correct mapping, that could be a good option!? Well that does stand to reason! If you could develop a slightly larger 10% maybe turbo or there is one already like alluded to earlier a CT20 with a trim and strength that made it more efficient and or capable of pushing more pressure reliably then the twin setup could be used to squeeze a bit more out of. Ageing valve bits and all the complicated gubbins that go on a TT would be a very weak point and replacing this kit with new stuff would with the cost of the tubby kits more than likely prove completely cost prohibitive over a small single setup that because of the competitive market is now rather on the cheap side, especially if you consider that the cheap part of a single conversion is the metal bits you stick on the hot side of the engine, the bit that costs the money is adding the additional required fuel in properly.
