Chris Bailey Posted June 16, 2014 Share Posted June 16, 2014 Its not the horsepower you've got to worry about in particular, its the heat and torque that kills an autobox especially if you're running big power through a stock box. From previous experience I wouldn't run over 600bhp and 560lbft, my dad had a 600bhp/560lbft setup on a stock auto and it lasted just a little over 1 year with 2x trans coolers with the odd spirited drive and some drag racing action. And the car was mapped by Ryan at 2BarTuning who is a supra specialist. When he mapped the car with the stock autobox he dropped the torque on the gearchanges so the stock auto wasnt under added pressure during changes. If you can spare the extra money I'd highly recommend looking into a built autobox. Something such as a Boostlogic, Titan, SRD built autos. One of them boxes mated with a 3200/3600/3800rpm hi stall torque converter can make a brilliant street car. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
