Babe
I've already got 4,500k (9600) HIDs on my 93 plate J-spec, and one has just blown (after a good few years I might add). Is it likely that both the bulb and the ballast have blown or can I just get a bulb? Does anyone know anywhere (or anyone) in Beds / Herts / Bucks that will fit them? If I need a kit, which would you go for:- http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/55w-new-smart-canbus-hid-kit-slim/ or http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/9006-hb4-50w-canbus-slim-hid-xenon-conversion-kits/ Thanks ! Suprahitz
Hi "Babe" A way of testing if the suspect bulb has blown is removing it from the head lamp and connecting it to the ballast on the working side. Obviously by disconnecting the working bulb from the working ballast first. If the bulb does work then it's the ballast gone. If bulb doesn't work then it's worth testing the suspect ballast using the working side bulb. I know this probably sounds too technical but hopefully helps find out if bulb or ballast at fault
SupraP-Z
I've already got 4,500k (9600) HIDs on my 93 plate J-spec, and one has just blown (after a good few years I might add). Did you mean 9006? That would be the bulb size... Most likely the bulb has blown, but the best way to check is as above. If one HID ballast and bulb is definitely working, take the bulb from the dud side and plug it into the working side - if the bulb lights up, then your ballast is dead, if the bulb doesn't light up your bulb is dead. If your bulb is at fault, just to double check, take the bulb from the working side and plug it into the ballast which you thought isn't working, if the bulb lights up then both your ballasts are fine and only one bulb needs changing. I wouldn't pay someone to fit a HID kit, its completely plug and play, two connectors on the bulb which click into two connectors on the ballast (they look the same and plug into each other), then one main connector on the ballast which connects to your dipped beam plug. In essence all you are doing is extending the loom, and sticking the ballast and bulb inbetween. If in doubt, look at how its already been done. As for the kits...I wouldn't go for 50w/55w, just stick to normal 35w kits. Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H1-H3-H4-H7-H11-9005-9006-Xenon-HID-Conversion-kit-6000K-8000K-10000K-/251301456835?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a82bbebc3 You wont need the canbus error free ones, You can also buy the bulbs separately Edited June 11, 2014 by SupraP-Z (see edit history)
Suprahitz
To add I first purchased some relatively cheap "DC" ballast kits of ebay with bulbs and they did not last long. Its worth checking on your ballast if mentions "DC". They were the slim model I had issues with. The "AC" ballast model with bulbs did the trick for me. Still going strong Did you mean 9006?
