jcbt
Look at the NA-T conversion kit sold by Whifbitz because if your going to do it do it properly. This would probably get you to around 400 to 450 hp. If your looking for more then you may as well buy a TT and start from there. There are a number of threads about this conversion so get typing in the search box. Personally I don't think NA-T is worth it for cash/gain/potential unless you either can either A) do a lot of the fitting yourself B) have a 6speed NA giving you more scope for future gains. That would depend on the purpose of the conversion. If it's all about power, speed, or cost effectiveness then you're probably right. If it's about seeing what you can do as a challenge that's a different matter altogether.
Benjy
Best, most effective, cost effective, least hassle route is a for sale ad and then buying a TT.
Rich.2211
A rough price depends greatly on how competent you are or how willing to get stuck in you are? It also depends on what additions you want add on the way i.e on my build I took the opportunity to replace some other things such as valve stem seals, cambelt etc. It is cheaper and less hassle to sell up and buy a TT auto but on the flip side you then own an Auto (good/bad debatable), you could end up buying a dog of a TT which requires major ££ spending anyway, a BPU TT is not as "fun" (read aggressive, urgent, crazy) as a NA-T and finally you may just really love your NA and the mods you have done on it so far and not want to sell. For big, big power you will likely be limited by the box on an NA-T and in a TT you will be limited by the turbos (so either way you would still end up spending a fair chunk of cash if you want to reliably chase power past 400bhp) It all boils down to how competent you are mechanically/how willing you are to learn, what your "end goal" is (the furthest you will ever want to take the car bhp wise) and what you invisage your final spec to be Lets face facts, if were trying to take the most sensible option all the time I doubt any of us would own Supras anyway Edited June 2, 2014 by Rich.2211 (see edit history)
Noz
Do all the work yourself and to 400hp you won't get a cheaper bang for buck. Self build NA-t to 400hp is the cheapest way to a manual 400hp. Pay for an expensive "proper" NA-t kit and you're wasting your money. Pay for anyone to install any NA-t kit is also a waste of money. Pay for a conversion hoping for more than 400hp without any hassle, again, waste of money. Listening to anyone who doesn't own an NA-t, waste of money
monkey76364
Noz, I don't think it's true that paying to install your na-t conversion is a waste of money, I have mine built as I didn't have the space, time or knowledge of everything needed and if I had I think I would have hit some very big issues along the way. I also don't believe that paying for a proper kit that you call it is a waste of money, would rather have a good quality turbo and manifold than a cheep eBay Chinese one! And as for hoping for more than 400bhp with no hassle, I would say more cost than hassle. I'm now on 474bhp and cloning but now there is a lot to mod to get it higher. It's all down to what you want to spend and what you like!
