Guest Christian83
Hello from Luxembourg! I have a MKIV now, and have notice under bonnet white residue. I also find blue stuff around radiator and hoses. What is this coolant leak? Thanks

Guest Christian83
Looks like crystalised antifreeze, is your antifreeze blue ? Hello! My radiator has clear liquid with how do you say a 'hint'? of brown. Maybe old coolant was blue? I can clean and see if it come back. What do you say to the white powder? Dnk
I'd clean it all off then so you can see if you have new problems, when the system is cold keep an eye on the level in the expansion tank. If the coolant is old and a rusty brown colour i'd be inclined to change it

I squeeze radiator hose and feel crunchy.
Dnk
At the very least get the coolant tested to see what protection its giving as regards it freezing, this is a simple test to do
wile e coyote
I have the write crystallising on the bonnet blanket ,seems worst when got wet Has somebody cleaned the engine bay recently The blue maybe a residue from a sealer at some time and it's gone off Give it all a good clean ,change your fluid for the Toyota long life and keep an eye on it

Dnk
All of the hoses will be at least 12 years old now if your car was one of the last of the production line, if its an early one then up to 20 years old. Anyone of them could fail due to age, unless they have already been replaced by previous owners. This goes for a lot of other parts too, not just engine hoses What is your car, model age mileage, do you have any history with the car showing items that have been replaced, service work etc Ethylene Glycol antifreeze is what you need mixed with distilled water or de mineralised water, see page CO-2 in the attached pdfCO.pdf Edited June 3, 2014 by Dnk (see edit history)

Did not think could fail, only wonder about crunchy, rusty inside?
